Oh swell. My husband has found a new hyper-violent show to watch. "Gangs of London"

Bleh.

How can two people's tastes in entertainment be so different?

Anyone else have this issue?

1. My wife of 56 years

died about 5 years ago but we both liked some shows and also both liked shows the other disliked.

2. I'm so sorry for your loss.

It seems lately there are fewer and fewer shows we agree on.

Right now it seems its Formula 1 and that's about it.

3. We solved this years ago

Two TVs. She watches what she wants to in one room, and I watch what I want in another room. I don't tell her what she should watch, and she doesn't tell me what I should watch. Together for 35 years, and so far it's worked out quite well. There's a whole lot of stuff we do together. TV just isn't one of them.

4. Yeah, I'm hiding in the bedroom, with headphones on.

We have a tiny house, so the living room TV can be heard in every room.

I don't police his viewing habits, but I do express my dislike of being subjected to sounds of torture and murder.

8. Solved that one years ago too...

Before we we're able to have a bigger place, I invested about $40 into a set of cordless headphones for the TV. I could watch what I wanted as loud as I wanted, and she couldn't hear a thing. She could also watch what she wanted as loud as she wanted because of the headphones I had on. That worked out well for us as long as I needed them. Quite comfortable also. Just offering a suggestion.

5. Raises hand. My husband's taste in movies is very similar to yours..

War movies. Westerns, anything with Steven Segal/Charles Bronson/Chuck Norris, and last but not least, John Wayne. Also, movies with violent revenge themes.

I like movies with uplifting themes, biographies, and historical dramas. I like movies that educate and provide some sort of intellectual challenge.

We do like to watch animal themed movies together, but our taste and interest in types of movies is very different.
I commiserate.

6. Thanks!

I'm kind of in a grouchy mood because I'm trying to wind down for the day, but have a bit of a headache and tummy ache.

All the screaming and gunfire is kind of adding to the stress.

Well, not now that I'm listening to a babbling brook in my headphone!

7. My husband loves Westerns and chuck norris whoever he is. I prefer historical dramas, pychologicall

Thrillers, murder mystery, etc. I always fell guilty that we donít watch tv together, except for news.

10. I just don't understand how DH can continue to

watch a murder every 5 minutes. At first Queen of the South had the potential for at least a plot; I did enjoy the "cult" episodes that featured the creepy kid leading the leading lady around by the hand, a bit like American Horror Story, but I just can't continue seeing a murder every 5 minutes without much plot left with which to redeem itself. No thanks! No more!

16. I will teach him the errors of his ways!

yes INDEED

alas, I do know the effect of mismatched tastes in TV shows.....there's just some stuff I will not watch! I think in that case you have your together time and then a portion of solo TV time

12. I've seen the promos for that show. Not for me, either.

After all the horror of COVID this past year and all the death (not to mention all the mass shootings), I just don't get wanting to watch gratuitous violence. I can only watch old westerns from the standpoint that I love horses, love to watch GOOD horse-riders, and beautiful scenery--otherwise, it is comedies, dramas, history, and some documentaries.

If your husband is watching with a loud sound system that you are trying to block out in the bedroom, you have my double sympathy.

15. Mrs. Aristus and I either tolerate or are repelled by the same kinds of violence.

We both like "The Boys" despite the bone-jarring levels of violence.

We turned off "Utopia" halfway through the first episode due to the revolting violence.

I'm not sure I can explain why the two shows were different in that respect.
