An office affair went on for a couple of years between a never-married woman and the married slacker, both in their late 30s. Pretty much everybody knew their whole routine, how they would rendezvous (in motels?), how he would take leave on Fridays or Mondays when he had a ticket for his pro football team's games, and how she would cover for him working late on his constant backload.
Their offices were across the hall from each other and she could just look up from her desk anytime and see him through the open doors. Oh, and when his wife had a baby. the lover had a picture of the baby and showed it all around saying, "Look at (X's) baby, looks just like him!1"
She was always at her desk before 8 A.M., while he straggled in whenever. My office was next to his and I was always in 5 or so minutes before 8 and would stand in her door chatting to get the day started.
So one morning, X wasn't in and I asked her where he was. She said, "I don't know," and jabbed/stabbed the desk phone's buttons (long before cells). Apparently Ms X who was a teacher answered and the lover said, "This is Ms Y from work. Is Mr X coming in? ... Oh, alright, thank you." She told me the wife said he was taking Sick Leave.
I said, "What was *she* doing there?!1"
And she said, "THAT's what *I* want to know!1"
