I don't always watch TV... but when I do...

ALL the Real Housewives shows
Bridezillas
The Bad Girls Club

There's just something about watching people who think they're "She Who Must Be Obeyed" live unhappy day-to-day alcohol-filled jealousy driven lives that gives this 50-something balding man a feeling akin to Chris Matthews' "chills up my leg".

Of course I watch other things... sometimes. But I DVR those. Excellent entertainment when the outside work is done, the house is clean, and I've an hour to kill...

1. I've watched a few bridezilla's

I would NEVER hit a woman but a few of those make me wonder how the groom hasn't killed them.

2. Don't feel guilty

These shows are what "guilty pleasures" are all about. The Germans call it schadenfreude.

Your comment about "something about watching people" is exactly why these shows are created and recreated, and widely watched, and successful. The average TV viewer is entering an alpha state that is used to subjugate present realities by allowing a view into the worlds of those society deems doomed: mob wives, child pimps (Toddlers and Tiaras), and ignorant shrews who can't keep a civil tongue on their wedding day (!).

Upshot: you feel superior by watching lowlifes.

3. The gypsy wedding shows floor me.

A couple of times a year, there are TV warnings about roofers and asphalt driveway contractors that have hit the area...not referred to as gypsies, but as Travelers. Why they have a tv show about weddings is beyond me.

Did you see the one where the woman cleaned everything with Clorox, including her TEETH?

My parents had some dealings with travelers when they rented a unit to them in a four-plex. The men were all named Robert and they all sold used cars. From the time they rented to them until they were evicted, two years later, my parents made $500.

6. I found the Gypsy show by accident....

I was mesmerized! I never did see the wedding, though.

They come around here too. They are easy to spot by their big fancy pickup trucks.

7. Kind of like my fascination with the show Hoarders.

Every time I see that show - it's both fascinating and disturbing that people can live in their own filth like that.

10. I watch it too and have mixed feelings

about the whole thing.

I get so aggravated seeing the stuff people keep.

Yet when it comes time to get rid of it, I can empathize with their difficulty in letting it go.

One show in particular had a lady who had, in addition to other things, lots of yarn and knitting needles.

The organizer said, well, you don't need all those needles...you only need like one or two pairs.

And I was...WTF?????!!!!!

NO!!! Anybody who knits knows you need different sizes for different weights of yarn and different patterns.

Anyone who tried to weed out my yarn stash and needles would not be safe.

12. The weirdest one was the doll hoarder.

This woman had like thousands of dolls - so many that the attic was beginning to collapse! That was scary.

And then I saw one where this woman had like three refrigerators full of expired meats and then one had like three inches thick of solidified meat juice in it.

11. I never watched any of those shows.

The only reality shows I watch are on Food Network.

14. I used to be hooked on THE BAD GIRLS CLUB...

...but the last season in Las Vegas was just downright depressing. Even when the twins finally got theirs, it wasn't enough to hold me.

I have suspicions about why this season didn't seem to work out, but I'll just keep those to myself LOL.
