Anyone else have a stink bug problem?
I'm just curious. We are in western NC and we kill between 3 and 12 a day here, year round. They are everywhere in the house. I read that they started in PA but obviously they have spread. We are so sick of seeing them on kitchen counters, on a table next to a cocktail, on the ceiling over the bed. It's great they are harmless and don't bite, but they are everywhere, and the name is apt. Anyone else have these pests? Please don't flame me if you love them and keep them as pets.

1. They're around here (southern MD,)
but not as many as you describe, and just now, NOT year round.

2. Have had one or two
My dog likes to play with them. Regardless of their name, mine don't seem to stink.

8. They stink when they are smushed not just when they're hanging out
At least that's my understanding ...

3. Yep.
MA here. Usually in the warm weather. This winter they are coming in half dead and don't survive long.
I hate those suckers. |

5. So far nobody seems too bothered by them
If you have them at the same rate we do, Amazon sells an amazing product, called a Bugzooka, which we use on them. We gather so many we have to clean it often. But it's very handy. Works on other bugs as well but we don't have any others that bother us. (I sound like an ad--no association with the product!)

14. Us too!
They hibernate over the winter in the cracks and crevices around the house and
wake up now when spring is in the air. It takes only a minute or two to take them out. They are harmless and just want on their way. I actually think they are kinda cute. We take out quite a few over the spring. |

6. I get 5 or 6 a year in my second floor office.
I hate when they attempt to fly and flop on my desk.
My issue are ants that stream into my kitchen every spring. It used to be for a week or two but the last few years I’ve battled them for months. They don’t get into the cupboards or food but they run all over the counter and sink. I figure there are million of ants in the ground and under my long driveway. Unfortunately, I’m just living in their world. |

7. We get them here
NE Ohio
They seem to be worse at some times than others, but yes they are in the House year round. I think they’re worse in the fall because they are seeking a warm place when the weather turns cold. They are annoying. My son’s turtles eat them. One time one of them fell off the ceiling fan over the dining room table and landed right in my salad. ![]() |

18. Well, ew.
I appreciate the catch-and-release people here, but unless I am releasing them a mile away, not happening. One night I got up to use the biffy and came back, not realizing one was on my pillow. Lay on it, squooshed it, had a hard time getting the stink off me. We have had them on our food plates as well, on the remote control when we reach for it, it's a full-on invasion here.

19. If you're getting them on plates, the remote
and the ceiling fan in addition to other locales you might want to step up treatment.
It sounds like what we started with and over a few days it turned into battling hundreds of bugs on two floors in several main rooms; they rapidly increased with the good weather. To disable them I think we used Dawn dish soap as a SPRAY which worked well. It's been 10 years. Good luck with the Battle of the Bugs! |

13. I've never seen a stink bug here in Albuquerque. We did have an infestation of gnats
one year but flypaper strips took care of them. I used to live in Phoenix AZ and came to
think of it as Roach City. We do have some roaches here but I got some super-sticky bug sheets and that helps a lot. Those might work on the stink bugs too. |

15. I seconded ABQTommy about the sticky paper
I buy what is sold as spider traps. Places like Walmart's or Lowe's, Ace hardware, or online for real cheap prices.
It's a lightweight cardboard with a sticky surface. You can fold it into a pyramid shape, but what I do is just leave it open and flat and place it in the corners of my rooms, under the sink, refrigerator and stove. In the cabinets under the sinks. It will catch all sorts of creepy crawlers. Then you just toss it into the trash. When shopping for it look for the ones with four to a package. Some come one to a package. Google 'spider glue trap'. Of course if you've got cats or dogs you probably can't use it as they're liable to get a paw caught on the glue it is very difficult to get it off if you get your fingers stuck on it. |

16. YES!
Gawd, I hate those things. We'd never had them before this winter. I had one get in my pants the other day. I did not appreciate that, I tell you what.
Along with that, we have gnats that I apparently carried in with plants I had set outside for the summer. They drive me nuts on the computer screen. I need to find some neem oil. |

20. I think you need some pest control treatment. If you already have it,
call the company up and tell them it's not working. They need to come out and redo.

21. We are wary of that
given our 3 small dogs and a cat. So we just Bugzooka them up as we see them. They do not respond to Raid or any other somewhat-contained bug spray They live outside and come in when we let the dogs in and out, not sure if spraying the whole house and some of the yard would do any good anyway. On the plus side, they are extremely easy to catch, and they don't bite.
