Wawannabe's making the move to AK in 2021!

When I joined in 2017, I was planning a solo move to WA.

Welp, I’ve got the itch to try AK. Have visited and want to retire there - so now is the time before I get too old.

AKwannabe is ONE of the first steps to the planning and implementation of a long held dream. The DU community saw me through my move and subsequent years in WA. Thank you all. Now hoping DU will help see me through this move. It’s a vast network and one never knows when they will need a friend or a hand up!

I have a tiny tiny network in AK from my ten day visit in 2018. I emailed a lady I met this morning. Coolworks.com
Will help with a seasonal position and let me start looking for a forever home.

Still love WA! And will visit friends here often but the pioneer woman in me calls herself to get to AK before it’s too late!

AK locals! Would like to here from you regarding employment opps in your area or rentals. Any info you deem helpful. TIA

Grateful for DU. 🙏

2. I am open. But...

Juneau, Anchorage (and around), Seward.

I could go farther afield but not with my vehicle. I own a great vehicle for AK and don’t want to ditch it. Would be very hard and expensive to replace there.

So Nome is sort of out of the equation ...would be tuff to accomplish.

Because I would likely get a job from coolworks then it would depend. I am planning to take the ferry at least to Juneau so going to look hard there.

Thanks for asking!

3. My email received a reply!

Woot!

The contact I made was while hitchhiking to a trailhead at Flattop mtn. Picked me up and drove me about 3 miles as it was near her home. She specializes in moving people to AK. (At the time, I was like, how can this be? Must be a sign!). I didn’t forget how to contact her and she remembered me too. Cool!

Another nice thing is that she didn’t appear much older than me, so maybe a possible friend down the road. Nice when relocating without friends/family in the area.
