Anyone here "attracted to" inanimate objects???

Have a friend who has a strange interest that is troubling some of us but don't want to go into specifics yet. I know it isn't normal, but it is particularly harmful for someone to sexually attracted to inanimate objects??

If the object he's "into" can't cause him bodily harm, I say live and let live.

such as a pot of boiling water, then I say that is probably troubling. However, if he is attracted to something not so dangerous, such as a pillow or a pornographic magazine, then I don't think that is something to be concerned with.

Even if it is harmless, I don't think that falls in the realm of normal human sexuality. I think you are right to be concerned. But then again, I'm the DU prude, so take my words with a grain of salt.

But I like 'em better when they're on somebody. Tee hee.

There's lots of fetishes out there. I couldn't really tell you if one is dangerous or not without really knowing what it is first. I saw this show one time where this guy got really turned on by ice sculptures. He like to hold them and caress them. It might be weird, but I wouldn't classify it as dangerous as long as he doesn't hold them too long and give himself frost bite.

11. Update - Barbie Dolls......

That's the "inanimate objects" in question. I've been reading more about it and although it is strange it doesn't seem like it would be harmful even if he was acting out fantasies with these plastic barbie dolls. If it was a baby doll or something, that would obviously be more concerning, or if they were his kids dolls, but he keeps his play doll separate from theirs. Thoughts??

We've all got our strange fetishes I'm sure, and I'm sure people would look at me curiously if they knew some of my own, I'm just helping my friend and his wife deal with this one specifically so was wanting some input. Thanks!

Well, "common" isn't the right word but I've heard of Barbie fetishes more than once. And you're right that it's harmless as long as it's not dangerous or gets in the way of having a happy sex life (inclusive or exclusive of the fetish object).

We humans are remarkable for creating associations at important times and between important things, and sexuality is one of the most important. Shoes are one of the most common, articles of clothing associated with some usually early sexual feelings displaced to an object.

how do the two of them feel about it...

Just like with any other sexual thing, if both parties are OK with it, then there's no problem.

If either of them has a problem, then maybe counseling would be a good idea.
