Well, I tell people to make sure they are checking the status of their voter registrations.

Last thing you want is to find out you cannot vote because of some political shenanigan.

So, I went into my state's database and looked myself up.

I've been a registered Democrat since 1990.

Not to pat myself on the back or anything, but...

(pat, pat, pat)

...do check the status of your own registration at some point soon.

I'd go to the website of your Sec. of State. Failing that, call them up and ask how. PatrickforO Feb 2020 #3

On the website for ours, which is a link on the county web page, you pull up voter information and just enter your name and date of birth. Your registration will show up with the address that is in the system

Vote 411 is a national site

Your voter reg doesn't automatically follow you, and this is one trigger the gop uses to toss people off of the rolls.

So even if you just moved one block over and your voting place doesn't change, you need to re-register to be safe.

In Colorado, you have to change your address. With the wrong address it is an invalid registration and if you vote in your old precinct, it is illegal, and if you try and vote where you live now, you won't be allowed.

Of course, Colorado mails out ballots, but you still need to make sure your registration is current, active and everything is correct.

if you change towns. And if you don't return your census form, you might get a letter saying you aren't registered. This happened to my son who moved one town over.

It wasn't anything nefarious, just the way the state registration system works. We still don't need to show ANY form of id when we vote. But, we do need to be registered.

unless the voter registration card is returned to Elections with "no longer lives here" or "person unknown" or other "undeliverable" phrases. When that happens for the first time, the voter's file is marked 'suspended' . If the person comes in to vote, that suspended flag tells us to do an address change on the voter. Now if the voter hasn't voted and the card comes back again 2 years later, then the voter is purged and must re-register.

If the cards are never returned, the voter stays on the roll. My daughter who has been registered to vote in Phoenix for 12 years is still on the rolls because I just tossed her card in the trash. This year I sent it back !!!

Now that we can vote at any precinct on Election Day, there is no issue with trying to vote at your old location vs new. No issue with hunting down your correct voting location - just find one and vote. It is so awesome. There are 225 voting locations here on Election Day plus 50 or so early voting locations for 10 days prior to the election.
