On back porch listening to our son jam Hendrix this morning

A ramble had a lot coffee been up since 03:30. Listening to him jam Killing floor at the moment having my pipe and coffee. No clue as to why Hendrix is up today. Then you really do not need a reason he opened the slider and asked if he could plug into the twin. I said wait until everyone else is up.

He is using at moment these one watt tube heads and cabinet Marshalls that I scored used years ago. He is playing my fathers strat it was given to him by my one brother who no longer plays. The guitar sat cold for almost nineteen years after our dad passed. I remember playing this guitar as a kid and I smile at memories. Wearing out albums trying to figure out songs. (are you experienced electric lady land bold as love.) today these young guitar slingers can go to the internet for instant lessons so do I. Never stop learning add to your chops on fretboard.

Then around nine or ten maybe 75 or 76 I discovered band of Gypsys. A friend of my dads jay really took me into the world of hammer ons pull offs sus chords I guess country blues and double stops. ZZ Top was another hook for me to this day our mother blames billy dusty and frank for me giving up piano lessons it is her humor.

Ma had dreams that I would become a classical pianists I think lessons were $8 hourly Mrs weaver my piano teacher mom would load my scrawny ass up and we would head to Dubois pa weekly for lessons It was torture to a nine year old kid. It was my elementary music teachers idea mentioning to my mom hey your kid picks this up. You may want to get him interested and piano lessons. Our mother loved classical music and opera. She would drag our father to hear a classical orchestra.

And everyday I would have to practice piano. Poor mom she would holler stop it as I played Elton John or Otis span or Ray Charles or fats domino stay focused boy you need to stay focused to get into Berklee. I am smiling as I remember these moments from my youth.

I saw my mom the other day at nursing home. I mentioned to her as the boys and I sat with her that our one son who is fifteen is going to berklee youth string program this summer for guitar. She smiled at me she got my joke. I was a clown as a kid seriously I was telling my boys awhile back in jump school in 84 sure my dad came through here in 61. But Im thinking wow Im walking the same turf as Hendrix and billy Cox my guitar heroes. Well I ramble everyone is up time start breakfast.

1. Music runs in your family

I remember the torture of piano lessons at that same age.

My Dad played the violin but only in his youth.

Anyway your guys are learning on the good stuff and I commend you for encouraging it. I remember my dad asking me Is that guy sick? when he heard Immigration Song coming off my bedroom turntable.

2. Ramble On

Appreciate the sharing and the caring you convey in your rambles and this was a great one this morning. I wish we were in the same neighborhood to hear the jams playing thru an open window on the wind. Thanks for your sharing.

4. Love it TEB, good for him! We all jammed Hendrix as kids & all had white axes & Marshall amps.

Started collecting Hendrix albums back then & now have over 250+. Thanks for bringing back fond memories!!

Ask your son to play you Angel... that and Red House, two of my faves.

Ramble on!!
