I got tired of them not carrying the local sports channels, I got tired of the blackouts, restrictions, contract bs, you name it.

And before you point to phone companies trying to pose as cable TV providers - they're not much better either (FIOS, UVERSE, etc.).

We lost cable for weeks.
I was a steady customer at Blockbuster during those weeks, because movies were all we could watch.

During Katrina a year later I never lost satellite signal.

several times a day to see the channel guide or change channels, so we switched to Direct TV. We think it's lots better, and it's also cheaper.

on top of everything else, even on clear days. Now, with Direct TV, we have perfect reception even when it's overcast or pouring rain.

Every time we complained to Dish, they said we needed to buy a new this or that, so we did, but it never fixed the problem. We've had Direct TV for 6 months now and haven't had any problems at all.

Their equipment blows away anything Comcast used to give us.

They are above the board on everything with the fees, and I'm pretty happy with them. I was worried about signal breakup, but I've had fewer problems than I did with cable, which used to break up from time to time on comcast's system. Go figure.

And the HD picture seems better, although I have SD in my bedroom. Both are good enough.
