(18,245 posts)6. And my dad never really said a word about any of it. I found out that he was at Pearl Harbor
when I told my mom that a classmate had an uncle who had been there.
I found the purple heart medals in my parent's attic when I was already a married mom.
He did tell me that he got to come home on the Queen Mary which had been re-purposed as a hospital / troop transport ship.
