Here's a clip from the movie "Stormy Weather" (1943) featuring Cab Calloway and his orchestra performing "Jumpin Jive". After awhile they let the Nicholas Brothers jump in and lend their feet to the action.

11. Shirley Temple learned her tap routines by listening to Bill Robinson, among others I guess,

And memorizing the sound patterns. She was an amazing child dancer!

19. Her mom started her in dance lessons when she was 2

When she was 4 she starred in a bunch of shorts. Her first major picture was Stand Up and Cheer at age 6. Her movies with Bill Robinson followed a year later.

According to Shirley, her most difficult number was Military March in 1936. She had do a bunch of steps while balancing on one foot. (She wasn't quite old enough to do the steps)

You can how she struggles with her balance at the 1:22 mark.

13. I can actually do that

See the woman turn on the record player? Of all of the things that the performers did on that video that is the one thing I can actually do.

Brilliant editing. That is a very precious skill and whoever edited this clip is a master.

Thanks

15. I wish I could rec this 100 times.

I have never seen this before. How in the world have I never seen this before? This is wonderful!

My favorite place to be when I am home, is sitting in front of the TV, watching TCM.

I've probably seen every single one of those movies. This just brought them to a whole new, incredible light.

Saving this to watch it every single day for the rest of my life. Thank you for posting it!

The entire time I was watching it, I couldn't stop smiling. I felt like a five year old who walked in on Santa Claus!

Too bad they almost never make movies like that anymore.
