(1,151 posts)more than you can ever imagine. Not that I'm advocating ripping them from their mothers too young or anything. My two cats were only a couple weeks old when I found them abandoned. Did the whole bottle feeding thing. They were not only incredibly attached to me, they were social like dogs when people came to visit. They'd run to the door and greet everyone and love on everyone. So many people told me "I never thought I liked cats, but yours are so friendly!"
What else can I say but 💕. They grab & melt your heart.
Decades ago I was momma to a ~5 week old kitten whom I had to teach to drink out of a dish. Brought to my door by a neighbor's child, Doozie had been taken from her mom a couple of weeks too soon but grew into the most trusting, sweet, confident kitty. And Miss Doozie absolutely *loved* our big Lab. She was the only kitty I'd ever seen who'd play fetch.

(6,106 posts)I really wanted one, so I went to my local shelter and got a kitten. My husband said "I'm not gonna pet it, I'm not gonna feed it and it better stay out of my way". A few hours later, my husband fell asleep on the couch and the kitten climbed up and fell asleep on his chest. When he woke up, it was all over and the cat owned him for the rest of its life.

(1,639 posts)I believe that Nature coded us for nurture.
It's wonderful to see another person blossom into that knowledge. It's especially lovely to see a man come into his own regarding this need we have to nurture something.
