I just got an album, I used to have it 35 years ago, but lost it in a move.
"Crystal Odyssey"
Anyone ever see a laser show like this one?

(18,639 posts)last month. It was spectacular! Much more of a religious theme, of course.

(21,130 posts)My boyfriend at the time used to take me to them on dates. They tore down that old planetarium and the new one would not work for a laser show.

(54,349 posts)First time was in 1975, when my then-girlfriend (now my wife) was on her first trip to the USA.
It was just fabulous! The Laserium!

(13,574 posts)blasting them around off mirrors on the back of their guitars shortly after that for safety reasons. That was pretty cool for back in the 70's though.

(7,527 posts)Our planetarium used to do "Laserium" shows in St. Louis, but I was very young. We went to one and it was neat, but I was really too young to know and appreciate all the music (not all by one band), and not being under any kind of influence meant the "oh cool lasers!" effect wore off quickly. This was before music videos were an actual thing, so it was more "sit in the dark and listen to an album on a killer sound system with amazing lighting effects".
On a school trip once (fourth grade?) we got a normal planetarium show and tour of the controls, and they actually let us push buttons. Some of them brought up projections and laser cues for "The Wall" which they were doing a full evening show for at the time. I wish I could go back and see that as an adult who can appreciate it.
I've also seen the Stone Mountain laser show in the 80s on a family trip which was cool (despite inherent issues with Stone Mtn.) but it was more like animation than trippy Pink Floyd Laserium stuff. They did a few cool music video type things such as a sequence to the "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" theme with solid laser beams configuring in the air, and they also traced the carving on the mountain and animated it to Elvis's "American Trilogy".

(5,477 posts)Went with several friends when we were in the Air Force. We were stationed 300 miles north, at Plattsburgh, and had come down to Westchester to stay with my folks for the weekend (we used to make the trip on a regular basis).
Since we were all in the Air Force and subject to random (and relatively frequent, at that time!) drug tests, we weren't in the best state of mind to completely enjoy the show, but we still had a great time. Amazing colors and patterns, matched with the music. This was not a single-group 'themed' show (like Laser Floyd, or Beatles), but had a very good mix of classical, pop, and rock.
Worth every penny we spent on the tickets, but when we were entering, the docent saw that we were USAF and told us that next time we wanted to come, to contact him directly and he'd make sure we were comped in (he was prior-service Air Force).
