Upcoming Linda Ronstadt documentary

For years Ronstadt has avoided having a film done about her but finally relented to the guy who did the one on David Crosby. She doesn't like talking about her past, or her disease, and is self-critical. But to me she was one of the most talented singers of the 70s and 80s. I loved her stylings and voice, and consider her a pioneer in rock. I also had a huge crush on her.

From the LA Times:

snip
"Friedman, one of the films directors, admits he was initially taken aback by Ronstadts aversion to attention.

Its surprising in many ways that a performer of her stature, who had such success, remained completely unspoiled by it, he says. I think its hard to understand today, when theres so much emphasis on celebrity and its all about followers and friends and influencers."

and

"Growing up in Tucson, she listened to a range of music: Her mother would sing Gilbert and Sullivan on the piano; her Mexican father played the music of his ancestors; her grandmother loved opera; and her sister was obsessed with Hank Williams. As a schoolgirl, she spent her days dreaming of rushing home and playing the records shed stacked in order of preference.

I never tried to do anything I hadnt heard by the age of 10. I wouldnt be able to do it authentically, she says of her career choices."

5. The Eagles talked about their respect for her in their doc

She basically got them started as her backing musicians and was happy when they went out on their own and found success. Henley had nothing but good things to say about her; the producer found plenty others for her doc who agreed. Harder for the Crosby doc, he said.

10. When I was in college, I saw Eagles & Linda Ronstadt do a stadium show in KC...

...with Jackson Browne, and JD Souther made a cameo appearance with the Eagles. The closing number was the Eagles' song "I Wish You Peace," with Linda singing lead, joined in the chorus with Henley, Frey, Browne, and Souther! It was JAW-DROPPING!! Beyond Awesome!

7. I was like a junior in HS and a girl's, I had a crush on, father drove us and two more of ...

...our friends to the concert in Largo, MD to see her and the Eagles. He dropped us off and then after the concert, picked us up and drove us back to our homes to Baltimore.

Seems like such a cool dream now!

8. I saw a doc about her doing a CD of old standards.

It was amazing how different the styling was and how quickly she got it. Ive always enjoyed her music. Nice to know she was never a diva.

9. 'Ronstadt -- who has a red Trump-style hat that reads "Make America Mexico Again" in her entryway

feels a strong tie to her Mexican roots. She is a longtime supporter of a cultural arts program that teaches young people about traditional Mexican music and dance, and traveled to Mexico in March with Jackson Browne to support the group.'
