First time at a canabis store

Craftygal is a kidney patient and has issues with nausea, migraine headaches and pain. Traditional medicine isn’t doing the trick so out of curiosity I dropped into a local cannabis store. There’s two within walking distance of my house.

The store is in a strip mall. When they moved in they completely redid the place. The windows are greyed out with one way viewable plastic so you can see out but not in.

When you go in past the big sign saying “you must be 18+ to enter. ID mandatory” there’s a big rectangular counter with 3 people inside. They were young and well but casually dressed. Overhead are big TV displays with brands and prices.

A approached one of the people, explained Craftygal’s situation and that I’m a truck driver and can’t be contaminated with THC. He brought me around to the other side of the counter where there were more TV displays of canabis in pill form. After a disclaimer that they were unable to offer medical advice a long discussion ensued with everybody contributing on the merits of combinations of CBD and THC. We eventually settled upon a bottle of 15 pills of something or other for $CAN20 + tax. I paid up and was sent over into a cubbyhole in the corner where another clerk dispensed it.

Everybody was friendly and knowledgeable and I intend to go back.

3. I'm waiting, impatiently, for Michigan to get everything lined up

Supposedly shops will be opening some time next year.

The CBD I'm using is very helpful with my anxiety/panic attacks, and even lessened my headaches, but I think I need a touch of THC for the sleep issues.

4. I Must Say,

although only medical MJ is legal in my state, I've heard a variety of reports of people's visits to shops in states where recreational is legal, and somehow it is not the serene experience I expected. I was imagining that legal pot would produce an experience kind of like tobacco shop when pipe smoking was common meets head shop, or a tea shop in London. You go in, take a look at the product in glass canisters, maybe take a whiff of a couple, they all have really cool names, and you buy a quantity of something that seems like it might appeal.

My friend in CA describes a soulless place with armed guards and barked orders. Maybe when it comes to pleasures of your youth you can't go home again.

6. They have to have armed guards because they're a cash only business.

Customers cannot use credit or debit cards. These stores cannot have accounts with banks because the banks are federally regulated, and if they take the Cannibas store's money, then they could be liable for drug trafficking.

14. I Learned That

I hope in my lifetime to see total legalization so it doesn’t have to be this way.

9. Not a guard in sight

I suspect if there was a problem the girl in the cubbyhole would slam the safe closed and spin the dial. It’s probably on a time lock.

Then there’s nothing else to do but stare at TV screens.

10. We have tons of stores in southern Oregon

And I don’t remember seeing guards in any of them, must be the larger cities.

And they are friendly cool hip places. I don’t use but go with my husband sometimes.

They are always helpful to give you the right stuff or tell you which makes you have energy or sleepy.

5. If you have trouble getting pills down change to a 1:1 oil (50% THC 50% CBD).

16. They seem to be working for her

On my second trip they’d run out of the original stuff so we tried a formulation with slightly more CBD. Seems to be working fine.

I’d rather she be using that rather than handfuls of Tylenol.

11. Our stores are pretty friendly once you get past the metal detectors and bullet proof glass.

This is in California.

The problem isn't the cannabis, it's the cash.

As others have noted above, the shop entrances would be a lot less intimidating if they were not forced to be cash-only businesses.

13. I'm excited about my city of Chicago getting it in January. Best part is the expungement of

criminal records from minor marijuana arrests statewide. It should help some people get jobs.
