Upsurge in roboscam calls lately

I have been getting a sudden rise in the number of scam calls lately. I haven't been answering numbers I don't know. I block numbers that call repeatedly. But, for the past 2 weeks, I have been getting a lot more calls.

After getting 14 calls in one day between 10am and 8pm, I have been shutting my phone off during the day. Every other day that week I have had only 10 - 12 scam calls per day.

I looked into getting Nomorobo for cell phone. Does it really cost $1.99 a month? If you have Nomorobo for cells, does it work well? Do you like it?

I'm about to go crazy. This morning I got 2 spam/scam calls while I was composing a text for my husband.

Thanks in advance!

I have it on my 'land line' but not my cell. For some reason, I rarely get spam calls on my cell phone.

Unfortunately, I don't have cable and I don't have a landline.

I was just googling the problem. One of the things to do was to see what your cell service provider has. I will check into that first (I'm on a plan with several family members).

on my cell. It would be free on the cablephone, but costs 2 bucks a month for the cell.

Go figure..

(I have to check if it's set up on the cablephone)

5. I was getting 2 or 3 calls, per day, from "windows tech support"

Before I had caller ID, and while I was dealing with multiple family medical situations, I had to answer the phone every single time it rang. I did a whole lot of cursing.

I don't answer any calls from numbers I don't recognize, on either phone, but I think I've only gotten one or two unknown number calls on my cell.

8. I did get a few calls from a 'collection agency'. I had to call an 800 number for details

Now, I kind of think a collection agency would have my info, right at hand. And the ones about lowering the interest on my credit card debts. Of which I have none. I told them that, when I finally got through to a real human and they hung up on me.

I just did it, haven't gotten any robocalls for TWO WHOLE DAYS! See if your carrier has something like that.

I will be doing that. I don't get that many of them, but I'm on a the pay-as-you-go plan and every call costs me 10c even if I hang up immediately.

Getting several recorded calls in Chinese (I think) lately. Very annoying.

10. Verizon has a free spam blocker too

But it doesn’t really work, it just stops some calls maybe a third of them after one ring and it says potential spam, I still have to manually block the call.

Just like you I have been getting more past two weeks too. Not sure why.

I was thinking of changing my number because we just moved to Oregon few years ago and I kept my WA number. Was thinking about getting a local number for my cell and not having it forwarded from old one, and only giving it out to family, friends and bills.

Not sure if that will work, I thought I might be getting calls from being on lists. Campaigning etc.

I don't recognize any company's right to invade my privacy or disturb my private peace using the phone for which I pay a monthly fee, unless I have given them express permission. Every time my phone rings, someone is committing those two actions. I have high external stimulus sensitivity which makes the effects far worse.

Laissez-faire brained Rethugs don't care so long as someone is making a buck.........

I use the service both on my landline and mobile. It really helps, but again, those apps can't completely stop spam calls. I don't know why, maybe because most of the calls are coming from foreign countries and they always change their number using spoofing technique. I combine the app along with manually blocking some numbers that pass through the blocker. Sometimes I also look up the numbers on FTC or any websites like http://whycall.me and block them manually. Now I get maybe 2-4 calls a week.
