My "documented" ancestor was a mail order bride to Salt Lake City.

She didn't like being a second wife so she ran away.

My mom's cousin still has it. The place was wild west when I was a kid -- no indoor plumbing and a woodstove for heat.

I'm guessing she was much happier. The family she founded is still a matriarchy. The women choose their husbands and decide where to live.

respectively, 1 and 2 Communipaw Avenue, Jersey City, NJ. Suck it, Bloomberg!

Also, two-thirds of the Ellis Island immigrants never reached NYC; they caught ferries to the Jersey City side and boarded trains for destinations like Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

Honest!

She just called me from Grand Central station, she can't believe how many people are there.

From there their group is going to Rockefeller Center.

I used to have so much fun showing out of towners Chicago, especially those from smaller towns. I was just wondering if your mom was having that same, childlike, awe-struck moment. I haven't had one of those moments in so long. Tell her to have a beautiful time!
