Miracle Cat Survives Being Almost Completely Frozen In Snow

She was found just in time.

By Kristen Warfield

Just one week ago, Fluffy the cat was frozen stiff and likely only minutes from death.

The indoor-outdoor cat had ventured out into the cold Montana air last Thursday while her family wasn't home, and in the process, somehow got injured and couldn't get back into the warm house. The frigid temperatures quickly overtook her body, covering her in thick layers of snow and ice as she lay waiting for help out in the yard.

Fluffy was unresponsive and nearly frozen when her owners returned home and found her later in the day but thanks to her quick-thinking family and the Animal Clinic of Kalispell, the cat has since made a miraculous recovery.

"They've always been great pet owners so they didn't hesitate to bring her straight here," Andrea Dutter, executive director of the clinic, told The Dodo. "It was all hands on deck. We had both doctors here working to thaw the snow and ice off her with warm water, and they were also blow-drying her and rotating in warm towels from the dryer."

After Fluffy's chilling near-death experience, her family has decided to limit her time outdoors. While she may miss exploring the yard, she'll likely have plenty of opportunities to go out with her family when it warms up.

"Her owners are new to the area and when they first bought their house, Fluffy was an outdoor cat already living there in the backyard," Dutter explained. "She was established out there at that point, but after they started taking care of her she began living half indoors."

For now, Fluffy is cuddled up at home in a nice warm bed with blankets and given what she's been through in the past week, that's probably where she'll want to stay for a while.

1. Our cat wouldn't go out in snow

She did for years. One day she came back with a lame foot that had a cut between the toes. We suspect she cut it on some ice somewhere. After that, if you opened the door and she saw snow, no deal.

3. My friend has a cat that when he was a kitten got put

into the freezer by his 3 year old grand niece. She wanted to make sure she knew where he was. Well some hours went by and no one could find Sebastian. As they looked his grand niece pointed to the freezer and everybody ran to see if he was actually in there. Well, there he was not moving or breathing very much but still managed to utter a very little stressed meow. they rushed him into a blanket with a hot water bottle and a hair dryer....yes, a hairdryer and snuggled him. He came out of it slowly but surly and is now a big happy healthy kitty. I do not know if they took him to the vet but either way he survived. He is a big loving kitty.

4. I would've put the 3-year-old in the freezer.

Not really, but geez! I hope they had a long long talk with her on how to treat living things.

6. Yeah, they talked to her.

She was not trying to hurt the kitty. She was actually trying to keep it safe but did not understand that freezer was opposite of that. She is actually really good with animals. My friend has a dog who does not seem to like very many people but he would snuggle up to her.

7. I'm sure she's a lovely little girl and wouldn't dream of hurting an animal.

This is probably why I've always had animals instead of kids, lol.

8. I used to want kids but then I saw friends and family with them

and decided I think it is better to have a dog or cat talk back than a child. Oddly enough, it seems like you can reason with an animal better.
