My daughter has laid out the Modern section of my book of art essays, originally seen here on DU!
We are self publishing them in order of the century they belong in. I guess she's doing this backward because the 20th century is the last one in the series.
I am so thrilled and delighted. Several of you DUers indicated an interest in having a copy when the whole book is finished. I have not forgotten your names. Whee! We're on our way!

2. Her landscape business which she just started last year will keep her very busy in the spring so
we are trying to get as much done as possible on the book as we can now. But she had wanted to do this so it is going to be a work-around. She has collaborated with my dtr in law who edited the copy (she is a professional editor), so I feel I have the very best team I could have!

10. Congratulations! If you've never experienced the feeling of holding a copy of the first book
you've written it sounds like you will soon. It's surreal. When all is done do something to reward yourself. I went to Arkansas and spent a weekend with elephants up close and personal for my reward.

13. I'm just wondering how big the book is going to be...
I wrote 45 art essays from the 13th century to the 20th century, skipping the 14th and 18th centuries (the art didn't interest me frankly).
I'm throwing a party at a local restaurant/bar for all those people who helped me along in the process. My daughter and daughter in law who worked as a copy editor/layout design team. My architect friend and neighbor who helped with one particular essay, our dear friend who gave me the title, my writing professor in grad school who taught me essay writing, and my husband for all his support will be honored. My son calls it a "Book Launch" and I call it a "Book signing." Whatever we call it, it will be wonderful! |

14. A suggestion to help with the promotion: Take a .jpg picture of your book cover to an office supply
store and have them blow up the pic to a size-appropriate to include on a poster and put it on poster board then, on the day of the book signing, put the poster on an easel outside the venue where you're having the book signing so that when the public walks by they'll see it. In addition to a pic of the book cover my poster advertised it as an author meet and greet and book signing. My poster was 2 ft x 3 ft and cost about $20 (almost 10 years ago price.) Take plenty of good writing pens. Be prepared to give a talk about how it all came about maybe even including why you left some things out and why you included others. Most importantly --- have fun. If you're self publishing take copies of the book with you for selling (along with $$$$ for change). If the book will be available for sale on line print up some business cards with the title of the book, your name, and the website address to give out at book signings.
What's your second book going to be about? |

15. Thanks, but I decided a while back to give the book away for free.
For one thing, there would be copyright issues with the photographs I used. I took them right off the Internet. While the art was in the public domain, the photographs were not.
I don't know if I have another book in me, really. I hadn't given it any thought... |
