I just meditated for 2 hours and 36 minutes. Ask me anything.

Just call me Baba Tobin.

I've had a daily meditation practice for about 6 months now. For the first few weeks, I didn't think it was doing much to me. Then I had a couple of great insights and I was hooked. I can really tell a difference now, and if I miss a day I don't feel right. Today was a marathon session for me. A little retreat in my living room on my day off. I usually sit for one 40 minute session a day, and every once in a while 40 minutes twice a day.

Meditation is tied to spirituality for me, but you don't have to believe in that to benefit from a daily meditation practice. Your practice can be secular in nature.

1. Ask you anything?

What is the true nature of your mind?

2. How did you stay awake?

Meditating usually makes me sleepy.

4. For the first month, I sometimes would fall asleep.

But with practice I've learned how to stay awake the entire time now. You just have to work at it.

5. Good for you, my dear Tobin!

I can't think of anything to ask you, though...Sorry!

Glad it's working for you.

8. Bananas and Cheerios apparently.

I'm no guru, that's for certain. But thoughts just come and go. The first thing I did when I was done was eat.

I'm eating cherries and peanuts.

What are the odds of that?

9. What is the meaning and function of those finger-positions I see meditators using?

Do you use a mantra?

And if so, what is the purpose of a mantra?

10. I don't know about the fingers. I don't do anything with mine except relax them.

I don't use a mantra either. As far as I can tell, a mantra can have just about any purpose. People use them for a variety of reasons including health, prosperity, enlightenment, resolving mental issues, etc.

I use audio recordings from Sacred Acoustics for my meditation sessions, and I highly recommend them.
