1. I just got the joke "Why did the chicken cross the road?" "To get to the

other side". I never knew the 'other side' implied heaven or afterlife.

2. Wait! What?! All these decades...

of thinking that there was some sort of deep existential meaning and it was a "winner winner chicken dinner" joke? Noooooo....

3. If you think that is bad I didn't know "Mares eat oats and does eat oats

and little lambs eat ivy, kids eat ivy too, wouldn't you" was a song about what farm animals eat. I thought it was just some random sounds put together.

4. For years, I thought it was random sounds too.

It's sung quite rapidly and almost as a tongue twister. Unless you see the words they're hard to decipher.

6. Oh... I've known that was about farm animals but...

Since I've never known anyone who eats horsemeat I've not thought of it as a song about food I eat. I also wouldn't "eat ivy too" since there are some types that can have some nasty side effects. Eep!

ETA: It sounds like you hadn't heard the rest of the song before?
If the words sound queer and funny to your ear, a little bit jumbled and jivey
Sing "Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy"

5. Never liked apples. Never believed the hype.

Didn't know about crucifixes and vampires, cuz my mom didn't let me watch anything scary.

7. My father asked a doctor friend what an apple a day does

and the doctor said "it makes you shit."
