What were your Saturday morning favorites?

It's almost 6 am here, and I was thinking about what a morning like this was like when I was a kid.

(1960's)

I had three favorites on Saturday morning TV, "Space Ghost," "Herculoids," and "Johnny Quest."

Lot of other Hanna-Barbera and, Sid and Marty Kroft shows, also.
I wasn't really that interested in those.

What were your Saturday morning favorites?

1. Pink Panther

I see these short clips of an old character called The Pink Panther. They play the clips before movies on this nostalgia channel. They sometimes show the cartoon. Really old stuff. Very funny and imaginative.

8. the Pink Panther Show -

I always looked foward to that as a kid. I remember liking "the ant and the aardvark" segments particularly.

By the way the Pink Panther character started out as title sequence shorts in the movie series of the same name.

2. Above all, the various iterations of the Bugs Bunny/ Warner Bros. cartoon shorts show.

A close second was the Sid and Marty Krofft show with writers from classic Star Trek, the original Land of the Lost.

I watched a bunch of other stuff and enjoyed it, but those two really stand out in my memory.

12. I hope that old is just that and in my case it is my style

Can't figure out why with all the recycled TV shows coming out, they have never redone Sky King or Whirlybirds.

16. Don't forget Crusader Rabbit and Colonel Bleep

They aired earlier in the morning, just after the test pattern finished up for the night. How many of these pipsqueaks even know what a test pattern is?

Don't forget Mighty Mouse and Underdog!

Loved Saturday mornings. Sitting in front of the TV and eating cereal. Good times.

Thanks for the memories...

14. I called Saturday Cartoon Day when I was younger

The Must Watch
Scooby-Doo though when Scappy came along...
Superfriends
Fat Albert
Bugs Bunny

And catching as much Schoolhouse Rock as possible.

Others that I liked that didn't stick around as long
Batman
Tarzan (which was notorious for using the same shots of his swinging on a vine and then catching a tree branch and flipping himself over it - even my young self noticed it and figured it was either the animators being cheap or everything happens to Tarzan at one spot in the jungle)
Zorro - I remember being pissed off at one episode when the alcalde sent for a swordsman from Spain to defeat Zorro, and he arrived wearing a version of Zorro's outfit but all white... AND he was able to best him in swordplay!

Shazam and Isis were the only live shows I watched. In Shazam, Billy Batson and a guardian roamed the country in an RV, which had an area in it that Billy could talk to the Greek gods. Isis was kind of a spin-off.

Thank goodness for these shows. Otherwise, I would have had to go play outside.

From the 50's, starring Buster Crabbe, with a catchy march-cadence theme song (which you can hear on Google).

20. The 1970's was the Golden Age of live-action Saturday Morning television.

I loved the Krofft Supershow, Space Academy, Jason Of Star Command, Ark II, Bigfoot And Wildboy, etc.

There was a Canadian series from the early seventies (which I watched on reruns in the mid-to-late 70's) called The Hilarious House Of Frightenstein.

I remember for a while, there would be Sunday-morning cartoons, too. I imagine they were second-string programs that producers thought couldn't make the cut for Saturday morning. I don't know why. If it was aimed at kids and was sponsored by cereal manufacturers, we watched it.

These Are The Days is probably the best example of this.

21. In my younger years I liked Mighty Mouse.

Here I come to save the day!
That means that Mighty Mouse is on the way!

After I got a little older I liked Fury, My Friend Flicka and Sky King. Sgt. Preston of the Yukon made it in the mix, plus Pink Panther, and a bunch of others. Too many to name but my sister and I liked nearly all of them.

Though I seem to remember that those were on after school. Those were the main cartoons and they had other cartoons on each show, Snagglepuss, Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy and my favorites, Pixie and Dixie!
