Happy second anniversary, my first cowboy hat.

{a rare vanity post}

It's a Bailey Stampede. I had wanted one for years. Someone recommended a store to me. One day, August 31, 2016, I walked in, and there it was. Mine is older than this. It has a red hat band.

I got another one, also black, last Saturday.

I wore it today. I'm about to leave work. I'll wear it home.

Cowboy hats are a lot of fun. You don't just buy them, and that's it. You have to shape them. Stores have specialized equipment, or you can use a teakettle and a steam iron. I shaped my newest one last weekend with an iron and an ironing board.

I went for the Chandler Bownds look:

Ummm, there are some differences.

Please enjoy the weekend.

A tune for Labor Day:

However, out of my deep and abiding respect for mahatmakanejeeves, I will not (WILL NOT, do you hear me?!) tell the joke about why cowboy hats are like something else.

You can say anything. I'm still going to wear my hat.

At my age, everything has to roll off. If I took things seriously, the stress would kill me within twenty-four hours.

I mean, who starts a thread about the second anniversary of buying a cowboy hat?

It keeps your head from getting too hot from the sun, or too cool from the wind. It keeps the rain off, and provides portable shade.

I started enjoying the outdoors a lot more once I started wearing a proper hat.

(and liked it so much I found a bead artist that makes custom bands)

One of the cheapskate TV channels ran one of his movies the other week. He took on a biker gang.

{Wikipedia says:}

The Born Losers

He looks good in a hat.

Thanks.
