What's the ideal end steady state for humanity?
Imagine a world where every disease has been cured, every hungry mouth fed, the last war fought, every one is treated equally and with respect and is free to pursue his/ dreams..
What will be major focus of human activity then? Or rather, if humans could one more thing before they go extinct( other than not going extinct) .. what should that be?

1. Settle the galaxy.
Start with the Solar System. Mine the Asteroid Belt. We have Mars and Venus we could Terraform with comets from the Kupier Belt and Oort Cloud. The Moon, the larger moons of the Jupiter and Saturn could be settled underground.
Perfect Dr. Miguel Alcubierre's Warp Drive. Then send exploration ships to the nearest stars. Then repeat as able to farther stars. Then send out colonization ships. If the Drive is not workable, then send slower than light ships to the nearby stars. I don't want to read any crap about we should not do this. People like Steven Hawking, Carl Sagan and others I really respect have all stated this. The human race must colonize the stars. Else a cosmic catastrophe, such as a comet or asteroid impacting the Earth, or a nearby star going Supernova could sterilize the Solar System. I love humans and humanity and don't want to read any shit that we are a plague or something. |

2. There is so much beauty in humans if people cared to look.
I like your reply. I hope it happens.

4. The sun will seal humanity's fate in a few billion years if we don't resettle elsewhere.
The again, perhaps by that time, if humanity still exists, we will have discovered a way to avert or prevent that catastrophe.
Granted, there are far more pressing threats to humanity: an asteroid impact; nuclear war; climate change; a biological pandemic; etc. |

5. Ideal or practical?
I rather expect something like Philip Jose Farmer's "Riders of the Purple Wage" to emerge before we all drown in our own wastes.
