What I love about Northern Virginia

I am sitting in la Madeleine, a French bistro watching a young lady in a hijab speaking to her co-workers in Spanish. An additional co-worker comes in with some type of home made Salvadoran sweet bread that she is sharing and they all seem to enjoy.

There is a sense of community, all hard at work early in the morning, enjoying each otherís company. It is nice to see.

3. In NYC, we see the same things every day

The plurality of life in much of our country is where the strength of the U.S. is based. As a nation built on immigration, our diversity is our greatest asset.

4. I so envy that.

Here in SW Pennsylvania we have none of that. One reason "they" embrace trump and his hate of immigrants.

6. I live is SW Pennsylvania also :-)

Specifically I live in Pittsburgh on the Northside. Almost everyone I know is a Dem, and I know very few Trump-humpers. However I am aware that outside our city, more to the far suburbs and rural areas, things are very different.

Here's how I feel about it: regardless of anyone's party affiliation I don't understand how any thinking person can support the orange asshole in the White House. The damage he's done to our country in just over a year and a half is unmistakable.

Once the Democrats are back in power it will take an entire generation to rid ourselves of his stink. Many Republicans feel the same way and their numbers are growing daily.

8. It is so hard to live here.

Such small minded people....ugly and hateful. Too old to relocate now....we are blessed with many good liberal, educated friends.

9. My sister lives in Irwin

... and almost her entire neighborhood had Conor Lamb yard signs out last month. Or they didn't have any signs at all which was also a good indicator.

Many of my friends in Pittsburgh are immigrants so therefore I couldn't possibly support a hateful no-immigration policy. It's easy to become friends with people from other countries because they are so open and friendly towards us Americans. Sadly if anyone is close-minded it's those of us who are born here, because we don't take the time to meet immigrants and get to know them. My life is greatly enriched by their friendship.

12. We are in Scottdale...

Conor Lamb did not win here but it is the first time our political signs were not stolen! We actually had to put security cameras on our house because people steal our political signs.😨

10. I can relate

I grew up in northern Virginia and considered it normal going out to Lebanese and Korean places to eat, and this was fifty years ago!

Now, of course my own status is one of an immigrant (I now live in Germany).
