Basing my post funeral plans on the John Wick movie

I'm going to prepay for the local animal shelter to deliver a rescue dog, along with a letter I've written, to my wife about a week after the funeral.

Difficult to choose a pet for someone else.
Will the shelter allow you to prepay a pet delivered to a third party (after you pass)?

Locally prospective owners must be screened.
