(27,461 posts)Ford Motor Co. is once again putting out a call for temporary workers to staff its assembly plant in Chicagoâs Hegewisch community.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security said it will hand out job applications from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at five area locations. The jobs involve installing components on vehicles on an assembly line. Temporary workers will be used to fill gaps in staffing during the summer, Megan Whatman, a Ford spokeswoman, said Thursday. The jobs will pay $15.51 an hour, she said.
State employment offices wonât be distributing applications. Instead, state employees will be at:
â Richton Park Village Hall, 4455 Sauk Trail.
â Human Development Center, 142 E. 154th St., Harvey.
â Phalanx, 10325 S. Halsted St., Chicago.
â Woodlawn Employment Center, 6101 S. Evans, Chicago.
â Dorolyn Academy of Music, 411 South Boulevard, Oak Park.
The employment department said it wonât evaluate job applicants, who need to show a valid driverâs license or state ID card to complete the application. To be considered, they need a high school diploma or GED.

(9,895 posts)As education becomes increasingly the next target - they have already taken away jobs, homes, retirement savings and hope - I fear that this is going to be our national reality until a truly visionary politician rises (and survives) to challenge the status quo.
China bullies its people into dorms and 12-hr days, 6 days a week, in company barracks with constant supply of man power as the enticement to bring manufacturing jobs to them. People in America - THAT is what corporations want! They want a broken people, desperate to not starve and willing to take the shittiest jobs for the lowest possible wage...problem being that for people living in America, you're better off committing a crime and doing the time than you are working a temp job and hoping like hell that you don't get evicted or sick.
Without a sustained and deadly serious effort to invest in a total restructuring of the economy of the United States - to transform us from a petroleum-based, debt-fueled serfdom into a renewable-based, resource-driven economic model, we face a very trying future indeed. Profits trumps people in our current world...the good news is that this cannot continue unabated forever. The bad news is that without strong leadership to take the reigns and move the state in a totally new direction, we just may live through some of the worst imaginable before it ever gets better...
