1. He's far from finished

But this verdict does hurt him. I'm sure he'll appeal it to death and it'll be years before he ever pays a cent.

3. There are another bunch of trials coming up

They’re in Connecticut, I believe from other families of the victims.

Jones will be tied up in court cases for years and with the evidence now easily available, those defamation suits will be even easier to succeed. Plus, he’ll likely get similar financial hits for each suit. It’ll add up and it should irreparably damage his brand.

They should mete it out to all of them, but they should take every last cent.

Can someone please explain his on-the-record objection?

9. Texas law limits punitive damages. The jury verdict for punitive damages far exceeds that limit.

Jones attorney was objecting to entry of judgment on the verdict as returned. The judge rather snidely told him the judgment she enters against Jones will comport with Texas law. She can double economic damages, which aren’t much (although I haven’t seen the jury forms), but non economic damages (such as emotional distress) are capped at $750,000 — at least as I understand it. I believe each parent in this case have separate claims

I thought it was something like that.

Does it mean that Jones won’t have to pay the big bucks?

12. Yup. I haven't seen the jury form, but I'm guessing the "chicken feed"

totaling $100,000 were the economic damages. I don’t know how that’s divided between the plaintiffs. She can double that. The non economic damages top out at $750,000. So (I think) the award will be $200,000 (somehow divided between the plaintiffs) plus $1.5 million ($750,000 for each plaintiff).

I may be wrong, because plaintiffs counsel argued about how much Jones is worth, and to come back with an amount to punish, and an amount to deter. $1.7 million ain’t that, but he knew going in what the max amount would be, but couldn’t tell the jury about the cap.

6. Bring on the sanctions and perjury charges.

Jones and his team were lying their asses off, hiding evidence and all kinds of stuff to stymie the Sandy Hook families. Is there a prosecutor in Texas willing to take this on?
