I can't believe his campaign can not see how bad this pandering makes him look. March on, Myth!

only the elite were educated. Because of the labor movement, people had free time on their hands and started doing things like educating themselves and asking questions. That is why labor and education are so vilified now.

While I am still nervous about the late intervention of "big money" and the fact Republicans control the vote counting in many key states, I am cautiously optimistic Obama will be re-elected with a comfortable margin, at least in the electoral college. We need to get rid of that electoral college. I understand the intention was not to allow for "mob rule" by tying the college to some balancing between population and inclusion of all states. It is based on the number of Senators and Congresscritters from each state.

But it is hardly democratic. I understand the need to protect "minorities" such as my original home state of Wyoming which is geographically fairly large but has a small population against a populous state.

But shouldn't the election of national leaders be made democratically? That is, the person with the most votes wins. The smaller states still have the 2-Senator representation that is intended to offset a smaller population.

So small states that, in a purely democratic system, would only get one Senator or maybe none, gets to cast 2 votes even if they have less than 1M people (such as Wyoming).

It is a weird system. I understand the original intent to protect smaller states from domination by larger ones but then they also had state legislatures selecting Senators and only white, land-owning men could vote.

Go figure....Isn't it about time to bring our system into the 21st century?

But most private charities now get a major amount of their funding from the government. Those private efforts wouldn't look near as effective if it weren't for tax money.

I remember after Katrina, my right wing mother sent me some heartless bullshit email about how people in the north had six feet of snow last season & they did just fine on their own without any government help because they got together & helped shovel each other out.

I just did one of these & wrote back, "Geez, Mom, I knew you went over to the dark side but I didn't think that meant you stopped thinking. Even you have to admit that six feet of snow outside your house is not like six feet of water inside your house. Come on!"

Romney backers who were not affected by this storm will not think twice about what he said. But those that lost a lot - I think they will be pissed. I would be!

What a fucking insensitive dolt. I'm having a harder & harder time being nice to people who I know support this asshole.
