is that they:

1. Believe that a woman's body is the property of the male--doesn't matter if she's not married to him or is not related to him.

and

2. Believe that rape is unbounded passion and love and not a crime of control and force.

That is the only way they can square it in their heads to follow this line of thinking. When one comes at this issue from those perspectives (and they feel that they've got a bible to back them up), then of course they're going to treat women and especially rape victims as worthless, second class citizens.

That reporter should have held that man's feet to the fire way more than he did. Because leaving it to the states, when state legislatures are filled with rethug idiots who believe this stuff--and it's pumped up on steroids--means that women all across this country are in danger of losing their rights to the sovereignty of their own bodies.
