Restoring grid power to New Orleans may take months.Transmission tower collapse in Avondale; will take four days to assess damage Aug 30, 2021 WWLTV Getting the power back on is proving to be a difficult task, with a collapse in Avondale. Excellent nutshell review of the failure of all eight feeder points from the regional grid to New Orleans and all points south and about potential temporary measures to create an isolated system for critical services. This video covers just one of those eight feeder points. As the YouTube headline stated, it will require at least four days just for a damage assessment. This suggests the city will essentially be shut down for many weeks and this affects refineries, other chemical plants and offshore petrochemical services along with the seafood industry south of the city. 1. This will have a widespread effect.
I feel so badly for the ones without power. When Fredrick hit 1979, we were out of power for weeks. It was hell. I feel for each and every household that is without.

2. How long before they start to blame President Biden for increases at the gas pumps and home heat.
I'll bet before the week is out.

4. Some will do that, but in the short term,
I'm thinking that this will be an opportunity to state more emphatically how much we need the infrastructure bills to pass. Don't let a disaster go to waste!

6. While we're at it, let's remind everyone that during Trumps campaign/term he promised infrastructure
improvements and projects basically over and over ... but then in 4 years never lifted a finger to make it happen.
Unless it was opening up new areas to drill and frack, of course. |

8. Whether it's getting people vaccinated, ending
the nation's longest war, or fixing the infrastructure, Joe Biden will be the one who gets it done.

5. Yikes!
But I have no doubt that this is true. We have had countless power outages here in the North Country and when Hurricane Irene came through in 2011, areas were out for days - not to mention the damage. And this is a much vaster area with a much larger and concentrated population, not to mention the damage to industries. And they thought they were better prepared after Katrina, but in some ways Ida was worse.
