And I realize he is trying to encourage the idiots to get vaxed, but this is ignoring the approx 19% of healthcare workers Dr. Ding stated in his twitter that were shown to suffer with long haul.

Nor does this address the potential another DUer raised a few days ago about the potential for a post-viral syndrome as can be the case with chicken pox & shingles.

I'm concerned that fully vaxed folks see their vaccines as a magic shield & that, as a result, they could let their guard down.

I went out for groceries & to run a few quick errands today. Was in a Kroger so huge & busy there were almost 20 checkouts open & lines at each one, including self-checkout. I counted maskers on one hand, besides myself. 2 of the 5 had masks well below noses.

And they were the loose fitting, blue surgical masks with ear loops. People are not paying attention. I fear for them and all of us.

2. Since this pandemic started, I've stopped going wherever I feel like for supplies

I made a decision on where I really needed to go - groceries, pharmacy, pet supplies and gas - and I go out once a week and make my rounds. And I have definitely noticed the change in mask usage as well. It used to be that no one was allowed anywhere without a mask - it was strictly enforced - aisles in stores were one-way and at any checkout there were lines on the floor to indicate six-foot distancing.

Now, myself and less than half of the employees are usually the only ones wearing masks. And though it's easier to shop now, I still spend as little time as possible anywhere I go.

And I had the Shingrix shot last year since I did have chicken pox as a kid. And I had spoken to a woman I know who had Shingles - who said it was so painful that she cut off all her hair because she just couldn't stand it. So I got Shingrix shot #1 at the beginning of last year - and shot #2 was supposed to be within a 6-month window. But I just made it under the wire in August of last year since the Walgreens where I got it wasn't administering them during the height of Covid. *sigh*

Stores here are never well air conditioned in summer & few seem to have units that dehumidify, they likely have cheap heat pump units. The Aldi I visited today seemed to have great ventilation but no cool air. It was like about 80F. Waaaaay too hot & muggy for me. Yuk.

By the time I got to my car, I was beginning to feel ill from the hot humid store.

The Kroger I stopped at was the same way. I was so hot that sweat was rolling down my face & back. Yuk.

So I wouldn't spend one unnecessary second in stores like that anyway and it makes it difficult to hurry through the store when it's so awful.

I'm just glad to have the shopping done for a while so I can avoid the potential for infection.

Is always so cold inside that I wear a jacket. Actually, I've taken to wearing my jacket wherever I go these days since I keep my masks in my pocket. And I use the self-checkout which means I don't have to venture at all close to anyone else. Besides, I also pick up groceries for my brother - who rarely leaves the house at all - so I have one of those reusable store grocery bags for each of us, so it's just easier.

And I'm such a regular at the store where I get pet supplies that they know me. In the beginning, they were the most strict in taking precautions - masks were required and they only let a certain number of shoppers in the store at a time. But with the expiration of the mask mandate here, several employees have told me that I don't need to wear one - and most of them don't, either.

I'm sorry that the ventilation is so poor in the markets there in the summer. If it's cold inside the stores here in the summer, you can imagine how it is in the winter!

During the pandemic most stores set aside an early hour for Seniors. But I try to do it all in one trip. Still do my pool exercises. I need that.

When I do have to pick up a prescription or something. Later I do not enjoy it. I keep my distance from others, sanitize. If masks are required I use them. I am not in a hot spot. So do visit family.

And I do that, too - make one trip out a week. I've been doing that for over a year now and I still wear my mask, though the mask mandate we had here in New York to enter any store or business was just rescinded just in time for both tourist season here as well as the Delta variant.

And I don't consider this area to be a hot spot, either. New York has been doing relatively well. My county is currently at 65% vaccinated, not great, but better than most others in the state. We may be a "blue state," but we also have our share of anti-vaxxers - which puts us all in danger, but there's no talking to some people who refuse to understand - yet. *sigh*

7. I read this morning that

700,000 people a day are finally getting vaccinated. That is really good news. Those who are still getting ill are mostly unvaccinated. 000.01% of those dying are vaccinated.

On other boards I occasionally see people complaining their employer is forcing them to get the vaccine. I simply tell them to get it, save their families, others. I am always joined by answers agreeing.

If we can just get a few that is still good. Mitch McConnell is even running ads in his state. That man had polio as a small child, his parents took him to Warm Springs, FDR Foundation.

The tide is slowly turning. Schools in Florida are ignoring DiSantis.

It may be too little, too late in some locations, but it's a positive step in any case. I truly don't understand how anyone can ignore the overwhelming news - especially since it's been going on for so long - all across this country and in every country in the world.

And I'm fine with employers mandating the vaccine, especially among health care workers. I also posted a video the other night of 4 nurses trying to explain why they're not getting vaccinated! The thing is, growing up we had vaccines to prevent disease since we were babies and small children, polio, smallpox, I don't even know them all, but I can even remember getting vaccines in school.

I also have a friend who returned to college a few years ago and she had to receive the MMR vaccine before she was allowed to attend classes. I drove her to get it and there was nothing controversial about it, she just did it - and she can't be the only one.

It's good news that some Republicans are promoting it, it's just too bad that they waited so long, they might have saved lives if they'd spoken up before. And it is extremely good news that DeSantis is being ignored. He said he opposed masks for school children because he wanted to see his own children smile! And in response to this, an ER doctor on MSNBC the other night said "You know who isn't smiling? Kids in ICU with Covid."
