And those of us who followed his advice and got whatever vaccine was available first are now in a much better place going forward. I got the Moderna since that was the first one available in my area when I qualified - I felt pretty rotten for a couple of days after shot #2, but that was sure better than the alternative! And I was kinda tickled to learn that this was the vaccine Dr. Fauci got, too.

I'm grateful for our vaccines as well! I had choice & chose Pfizer, but I agree that people should take whatever is available!

I wonder why he chose Moderna? Just curious. I'm sure glad you were able to get vaccine as well!

Sounds as if your immune system got a great workout! I only had very mild injection site tenderness after both of mine. But I've read that no severe reaction doesn't mean it didn't work.

It will be interesting to watch the spike anticipated following the KY Derby & whether those who contract covid have been vaccinated.

I'm guessing the numbers will be very low for those fully vaccinated, but who knows with the variants.

My friend who works in the hospital ER got hers early on - though she had to drive an hour downstate to a major hospital to get it - said she only had a slightly sore arm, and that's what I've heard from most of those who also got the Pfizer. And now that's available as well in my neck-of-the-woods, Walgreens is offering Pfizer and CVS (where I got mine) is offering Moderna.

But now we have both a large state and county site and as of last Thursday the state site started accepting walk-ins. So I took my chance and tried again to convince my brother to get vaccinated. He isn't anti vax, but he's agoraphobic, rarely leaves the house, so he seems to think he'll be okay. *sigh*

But the state site is in the old Sears store at the local mall which is only about a mile away, so I gave it one more try and my brother gave in and went with me! They asked him a lot more questions than I ever had to answer - my friend suggested this is because it's run by the state - but he got the shot, has an appointment for #2 in 3 weeks. And I'm grateful it was Pfizer since he said he had no reaction at all. I think he probably gave in since he was just sick and tired of hearing me!

I know he's been to the doctor and actually brought his vehicle in for inspection by himself. I brought him a good mask early on - since masks are required to go anywhere around here. He had tried to make one himself, so he's used the mask - I asked him if he could use a new one, but he said the one I brought him is still just fine...

I'm so glad you were able to convince him to go!!! Hey, if badgering worked, great for you!

Sorry to hear he struggles with that condition. It can be quite debilitating. I've wondered how many people will experience similar fears after isolation.

My guess is that perhaps Pfizer generally causes less reactions because it has less preservatives, which is why it requires super cold storage. I've also read that Pfizer isabout 1/3 the volume of Moderna.

Not sure, but I would have happily taken either!

Sadly, FEMA is preparing go close down the mass vax site weeks eaflier than anticipated because not many takers.

I had a chat with the friendly guy wiping down chairs while I was waiting (he also got the Moderna awhile ago ) and I can't remember the exact numbers he quoted, but he said they've vaccinated thousands just there! And I'm not surprised to hear that, even at this late date, the place was almost crowded and there were short lines waiting to check in. Maybe the fact that they took walk-ins made a difference? But this guy who has worked there didn't seem to think the crowds were unusual.

And I was happy to get either one, myself, as well. The local CVS here was completely booked when I tried to sign up, so I had to drive about 20 minutes away since that's where they still had openings. But I didn't care, I was just grateful to get it. Previously, there was no place in this area offering anything, my friend who teaches had to drive across the entire state since that was the closest place until the pharmacies started offering it.

There have been news articles advertising vax availability & that the FEMA site was only an 11 min. wait! Still not much traffic there, sadly.

Now they are raffling off a new car for anyone who has been vaccinated by 5/31.

But that really does sound like desperation! I've also heard about those offering "a shot (booze) for a shot!" which really does sound insane!!
