(1,000 posts)After 30 years of slander from the right, and a base either stupid enough or malicious enough to believe everything they made up, I thought it would a tight race, but at least she would be the most competent executive ever elected. Instead we got Private Clown Shoes. When Biden ran, I thought I could live with President Obama's VP, but both he and Bernie are too old, we boomers blew it and it is time for new blood. Whoa! Uncle Joe! Tickled pink to be wrong one more time!!!!

(778 posts)We should have learned from the Reagan Era that trickle down economics is a disaster. It could work, but we have too many greedy people in this country.
Too bad he didn't have the shovel in his hand last night because he could have handed it to Ted Cruz. Did you notice how he was dozing off a couple times during the speech? Probably for the entire speech, but definitely when the cameras rolled across him.

The Reagan myth has been so damaging. Its wonderful to see Joes administration proving every day that a government focused on helping the people who need it most makes us all stronger.

(11,562 posts)My sister was an economist, or, more specifically, her area of study, and her Master's thesis were the economics of the North Atlantic Triangle - US/Canada/UK. She got her degree on 100% scholarship and bursary.
In short, she knew what she was doing. Ended up as a Policy Advisor to the Cdn. govt.
I once asked her what she was taught about trickle-down, and she said that, in all her years of post-secondary education, during every lecture, seminar, reading list, or what have you, it had NEVER been mentioned as a serious area of study. Sure, it was described, but it got as much weight as the feudal economy, or the emergence of the rudiments of "modern" trade that helped to bring about the Renaissance.
"Yes, it happened, but we learned more and moved on."

(5,377 posts)Give working people a decent wage, good social infrastructure, including income support, and they will spend that money sensibly.
Enrichening their local and country's economy.
Makes the money work!
'Trickle down' simply means tax cuts and financial incentives for companies go to the ledger sheet of rich folk.
The money is stagnant, just sitting there in a bank somewhere.
Stagnant money is dead money.

(11,085 posts)It doesn't stimulate the economy or create jobs, but is that what Republicans really care about? Nah, they just want the stupid rich, the ones who inherited their money, to donate to their campaigns in return for a tax break. Can you say "quid pro quo" boys and girls?
