Civil Rights Icon Rep. John Lewis Dead at 80 - NowThis

Civil rights legend Rep. John Lewis has died at the age of 80.

Rep. John Lewis was a leader and organizer of the Civil Rights Movement who coordinated and spoke at the 1963 March on Washington; was beaten by police as he marched for voting rights in Selma in 1965; and was instrumental in getting major anti-discrimination legislation passed.

John Lewis represented Georgia as a U.S. congressman since 1986 and became known as 'the conscience of Congress.' He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year. He leaves us with the lesson: 'If you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have a moral obligation to do something about it.'

5. Its amazing in a day of Corrupt idiotic Republicans in Congress...

that one Democrat stood shoulders high above the rest. He, I am sure, represented his state well. I am sure he made a difference in Congress...unlike so many or his Republican colleagues.
