(18,837 posts)...in the same way that I really want to believe that Kentucky has simply had it with Mitch McConnell. We'll find out on November 3rd.

Whats the print version of Donald Trump being booed at the World Series?
The poll showing that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the presidents most stolid defender, is down to a 18 percent job approval rating in Kentucky. Only 37 percent in the Public Policy Poll said they would vote for him again next year.
Could that be because of his stone-faced support for whatever steaming mess Trump hurls his way? The Bluegrass State is the canary in the mine for how much Trump can help, or hurt, a candidate as his impeachment looks every more likely. After two weeks of unimpeachable civil servants bearing witness to an impeachable president, clinging to Trump out of fear he will kill you if you dont do what he says is becoming more politically perilous.
McConnells facing his toughest race since he first won election in 1984 by a few thousand votes after airing a famous ad in which a bloodhound sniffs around for the incumbent Walter Dee Huddleston who is nowhere to be found. 2020 will be McConnells first race since the once dignified man was infantilized by Trump and his unceasing demands for abject obedience. The indelible impression of the majority leader is of a sphinx standing before a microphone in the Capitol, flanked by a posse of yes-men quaking in their boots lest they reveal a flicker of disagreement with the White House. Even when it came to the Syrian conflict, they only objected briefly to abandoning our Kurdish allies in favor of helping Russia and letting terrorists go free. After Trump rebuked them, the caucus hastily retreated and learned to be impressed by his novel approach in the region.

(79,294 posts)Mitch McConnells hopes of returning to the U.S. Senate could be taking a major hit amid dismal new poll numbers that appear to show voters in his home state solidly against him.
The poll from the Morning Consult showed that McConnells disapproval rate among voters in his native Kentucky is at 50 percent, while just 37 percent of his home state voters approve of the job he is doing. The poll was called dismal by the International Business Times, which noted that the low approval ratings show that McConnell may face a serious challenge for his seat in 2020.
The report cited a series of controversial stances that appear to have hurt McConnells approval rating, including his support of Donald Trumps ongoing trade war with China, which has hurt the logging industry in Kentucky. The normally unflappable Senate Majority Leader also seemed particularly stung by opponents who dubbed him Moscow Mitch after McConnell blocked legislation that would protect U.S. election security, the report added.
McConnell also became a major target for the blockage of a bill to extend health benefits to 9/11 first responders. Comedian and first responder advocate Jon Stewart led a public campaign to push for the bills passage, identifying the Kentucky senator as a major force that had been holding it back. He is also in the spotlight after Trumps impeachment, with McConnell publicly saying he plans to work closely with the White House toward the presidents acquittal.
Democrats in Kentucky are hopeful that they can defeat McConnell in 2020 after defeating Republican Governor Matt Bevin in November. Amy McGrath, a former Marine fighter pilot who is trying to the Democratic nomination and challenge him, was confident that Democrats could continue the momentum into 2020.
This year, it was Matt Bevin. Next year, itll be Mitch McConnell, McGrath tweeted after Bevins defeat.

(4,066 posts)The reality is clear. Replacing McConnell is not just as important as replacing Trump - it's far more important. Trump is still very limited in what he can do. McConnell is the key to judges and legislation.

(1,752 posts)real problem. Theres always been fringe elements,d facist wanna bes, demagogues and charlatans running for prez - its the fact that the Republican Party establishment chose to give this one legitimacy.... THAT is what got us here, and THAT is where the solution lies. The anti-democratic crackpot fringe element needs to be isolated and marginalized and pushed back down into the hole it crawled out of.

(8,806 posts)Trump wouldn't last a second without the Republican Senate. Period..They keep trump around for the only reason to divert the publics attention, via the Republican owned media, day in and day out.......No one notices the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of things the Repubs are shoving thru in the shadows of Trump's lard ass and antics..........

(10,237 posts)I believe that her likely opponent this fall, State House Speaker Sara Gideon, has a genuine shot at sending Susan Collins the hell HOME.
Her 2014 opponent, Shenna Bellows, is my current state senator and (more importantly) my friend. Unfortunately the national party didn't throw much support or money her way.
RESIST!
