The Toolbox Fallacy

Topic: Inspiration and a Fallacy

I am into logical fallacies. There are many of them and you hear them all the time, but don't notice them until you know what they are. When you do, they pop out at you and often, you can even find out more often when you are being intentionally manipulated or lied to. Sometimes, they are just a part of the way that people think and speak and not intentional or important, as well.

This is a new one to me. I think, in this culture, it may be a rather important one. It is about how we can fool ourselves about our intentions and end up with no results when "someday" comes. It can be a habitual, perpetual cocoon of excuses. Now, it's okay if you don't care about never actually doing that thing you always wanted to do, but if you did want to before you die, consider this:

This is true and very punchy and hard to watch--for someone like me that was supposed to be a writer. That's what I told myself I wanted to be.

But the hard truth is that I hate the act of writing. I often feel like I have nothing to say that hasn't been said before many times.

I'm a natural story teller. That has served me well as a sales person.

But I stopped being a writer decades ago. A writer writes. It is really that simple. I write a little. But little posts on a web site don't really count.

I sometimes wonder what could have been. But, in the end if you don't practice whatever your art is then you can't really claim to be a writer/painter/sculptor/composer/musician...

A hard truth to be sure, but one that has to be faced.

I really identified with what he was relating and it was a good observation of something that can happen over a long period of time, so it kind of fades out of view.

The good thing about seeing the fallacy is that it might wake us up a little. I mean, we may not do that thing or those things in the past we wanted to ever again, but heck, we can be a bit fresh and open to doing something new, or small, instead of waiting.

It is inspiring in that sense and an eye opener. Heck for an older person, it might be a kick in the bucket list
