3. I think Barr is there to protect the Republican Party

and any protecting of Trump is ancillary to that.

Once the cost of Trump to the Old Guard Republicans and their interests outweighs the the benefits (like stuffing the courts with federalist judges) They will have a game plan to get Trump out of office and preserve the Republican Party

Barr has been such a good soldier for the Republican interests for decades ( Iran-Contra for example). I don't think he suddenly became a fan of Trump. Rather I think he is in position to do things like prevent release of information damaging to Republican interests, and preserve the presidential powers, not for Trump but for a future Republican presidency.

I don't know whether the Democrats in Congress might think they need to focus on disempowering Trump and stopping Russia,as the clear and present danger, and thus not take on an added battle of impeaching Barr.
