5. According to Bee Informed data Colony Collapse Disorder has not gone away

Although down from the height of the US colony loss in the 2012-2013 season, Colony Collapse is still affecting bee hives. Scroll down on this page for the comparison graph showing that bees are dying more from Colony Collapse Disorder than from normal winter loss.

6. Here is a link for more information about Paul Stamets working with Wash. State U.

to create a natural mushroom based remedy to halt the viruses spread by the varroa mite. He is offering "citizen scientists" an opportunity to test this bee tonic out in their back decks.

PS: I have no financial interest in this and the product is not yet on the market.

8. This is so cool!

Nice to know more people are working on this problem and that more people care. We need to keep teaching people that the perfect lawn and that extensive pesticide use can kill us just as easily as it kills insects.

However, Rachel Carson tried to educate people years ago, but here we are now - caring less about the natural world than ever before.
