Stephen Colbert - Guest Beto O'Rourke: We Don't Need A Wall

The man running against Ted Cruz to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate says we should be focused on smart security solutions and citizenship for DREAMers, not Donald Trump's proposed border wall.

And in case you missed this part of Colbert's monologue:

Will Beto O'Rourke Skate His Way To The Senate?

Can a skateboarding, liberal punk rocker pull off an upset in the Senate race in Texas? Stephen takes a look at the life of Ted Cruz rival Beto O'Rourke.

It was supposed to start at 1 p.m., but I was late because it was raining and I also went to the bank before showing up at the college library. There were only two people that registered to attend so knowing that I was one of them means that I didn't miss much. It's a shame that the students showed so little interest in the event, but it's not like this redneck town is overrun by intellectuals or liberals.

There is still plenty of phonebanking occurring and I received a phone call on Monday evening from one of Beto's volunteers.

I'm bookmarking the video to watch later since I'm in the middle of watching something else.

Since you made the effort to show up. It amazes me that students and locals aren't enthusiastic about his campaign - everyone else seems to be, LOL. And you know I'm serious, he's not just popular on DU, Stephen Colbert's audience - and they're likely from all over the place - gave him one huge welcome, rare even for his show. He really has national star power!

It probably won't sway that many voters, since I'm in Maryland.

I'm usually terrible at predicting these things, but the way things are going, I expect we'll be hearing a lot more from him!

And it doesn't hurt that his name is Robert Francis! I have to agree, he really seeks to have what it takes and that resonates with people far away from Texas. Stephen Colbert's audience - who are from all over - went wild for him!

populism vs. fundamentalism. Both run deep in Texas. Clearly the Cruz campaign, and some elements of the Republican party, fear Beto O'Rourke. Cruz is disliked by a significant portion of the population, and they are also angry at him for the things he's said and done, his demeanor (which to me seems sniveling priggish self-importance), and his support of Trump. Beto has momentum, Cruz has Texas-hold-em-as-hard-as-you-can. Beto has ideas, Cruz has ideology.

Turnout will be very important, obviously, the more so because Cruz has peaked and has no upside at this point. It's a race no sane man can predict, but my hunch is Beto by a .14% squeaker in a last minute surge. It's a throw-the-bums-out year.

Having seen both of them, I can't see anyone choosing annoying Ted Cruz over inspirational Beto O'Rourke. I'm hoping the audience reaction is indicative of the mood of the country right now, they went wild with applause when he came on!

The only excuse I can think of is those who don't pay attention and simply vote party, but the news is so in-your-face right now, not to mention that people are starting to be affected by Trump's ridiculous "policies," so people are waking up!

Wish we could vote for him here. And he has a very strong message, the audience loved him, and he didn't give Stephen much of a chance to weigh in..

inspired. Anyone who would choose Cruz over him needs to have their head examined. It is really about hate vs. hope. I hope he wins this race. I could easily see him as president one day.

Thanks for posting!

The only criticism I had was that I wish he'd been given more time! We waited for this and it seemed awfully short to me!
