The sugar industry's runoff is toward both the Gulf and the Atlantic, it has cut off Everglade water flow so that the largest salt-fresh water ecosystem in the country is almost dead.
Algae waves hit the beaches on the Gulf side, with help from the 200+ oil wells making the rest of the Gulf one of the largest dead zones on the planet -- thanks to polluters ExxonMobil, Shell, Chevron, BP, and ConocoPhillips CEO's.
Here are reports warnings from over eight years ago that no one in FL or at federal levels had taken seriously.

Instead, one has to see whole shorelines full of dead turtles, dolphins and fish now before people onshore who avoided it, now are forced to see actual signs of the pollution.
