1. Molloy is certainly right overall, but . . .

. . . his comments at the very beginning -- i.e., that treating cancer with surgery, chemo and/or radiation "doesn't work" -- are off base and unhelpful. Often, some combination of these DOES work, as millions of cancer survivors can attest. These treatments "don't work?" Tell that to Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Tell that to my sister-in-law, who is cancer-free 15 years after being treated for Hodgkins!

Of course, we all know that the treatments do not work in many cases, and for a variety of reasons. But to make a blanket statement like Molloy made denies the experience of millions who have been successfully treated. And it denies the considerable progress that has been made in the treatment of many cancers in recent decades.
