The US election hopeful, on a visit to London, questioned whether the Olympics will be a success.

Mr Romney said in a TV interview: “It’s hard to know just how well it will turn out. There are a few things that were disconcerting.”

The Republican candidate, who organised the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, also questioned whether the British people will “come together and celebrate” the Olympics.

There was further embarrassment when Mr Romney said he had looked out of “the backside of Number 10” to see the beach volleyball court.

He breached diplomatic protocol by revealing he had been briefed by MI6 chief Sir John Sawers, then appeared to forget Labour leader Ed Miliband’s name, calling him “Mr Leader” instead.

Mr Cameron later slapped down the Massachusetts governor. Visiting the Olympic Park on the eve of the opening ceremony, the PM insisted the Games would be a huge success.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/us-politics/9431144/Mitt-Romney-declares-himself-a-guy-from-Great-Britain-after-Olympics-gaffe.html

Mr Romney was asked in his interview on Thursday evening whether he had been aware of his roots in northern England, where his great-great-grandfather, a carpenter from Preston, was one of the first Mormons in Britain some 175 years ago.

“I knew that my ancestors came from here,” he said. “I know Miles Romney and Miles Park Romney – these are the folks that came and helped settle the West.”

Asked whether he felt “partly English” as a result, a chuckling Mr Romney replied: “Well, I’m married to a girl from Wales, and I’m a guy from Great Britain. So I feel like this is home too, I guess.”

break worth a fortune on a home that is not within the confines of that government's control?

He did that when he took an exemption from Utah, while trying to play at being a MA resident.

He was forced to pay it back, too, while he blamed the Utah government for the mistake.

My GAWD is he STOOOOOOOOOOPID! "Backside" in UK means ass, in essence--it's rather like he was saying he was looking out the asshole of the seat of the British government and the official residence of the British Prime Minister.

Two peoples separated by a common language, indeed.

Nonetheless, it means exactly what you say in parts OF MITT'S OWN COUNTRY (e.g., the rural South), so he may have achieved a transatlantic level of inappropriateness.

this sort of slip could happen to anyone, and doesn't show anything about his character

The OTHER stuff shows what a racist, inept person he is, and what an utter disaster it would be to send him out into the world.

But "backside of #10"? I could see anyone saying something like that accidentally.

It tells me he doesn't watch PBS at all.

And what's wrong with his staff? You'd have thought they'd have given him the "two peoples separated by a common language" briefing so he didn't feck it all up.

All that money, and what are they spending it on?

I'm waiting for him to slip in the mud and tell everyone he took a fall on his "fanny." That'll get the Brits talking.

If Rupert is anything like Romney, he'll have his newspapers and share in BSkyB sold... retroactively.

The Sun has always been nationalist so to knock him as "Mitt the Twit" is to be expected.

The really important story seems to be overshadowed by the Mitt-Wit comment gaff's about the London Olympics, interesting. Mitt goes to an infamous banking organization to have a $75000, per plate fundraiser, yes there were 25,000 plates, but they were not in the VIP room. Foreign money flooding into our election, thanks to Citizens United!!!!
