1. And the number who believe that Trump won the popular vote

will probably grow. By 2018 they will believe he overwhelmingly won the popular vote, thus justifying his mandate for change.

And the media will say nothing.

22. Chuck Todd doesn't think it's his job to expose the lies....

....unless it's from a Democrat.

Echoing a claim from a Republican that a Democrat lied is the same as the Democrat lying in his book. His idea of fairness is to give the Democrat the opportunity to explain themselves for their lies and then toss it to a Republican to ridicule their attempt at defending themselves.

At least, to hear the right wing talk about.

Hell, even the media thinks of things that way anymore.

2. The alt-right ...

... is really a nihilistic movement. They know what they're doing by spreading misinformation, stoking hatred and causing chaos and know what the result could be. They care nothing for what destruction they can bring upon society because that's the goal within itself.

16. That's kind of how I picture it ...

... I think the smart ones see themselves as something like the Joker in the Dark Knight Returns and the dumb ones are kind of like orcs in the Lord of the Rings.

One group knows that Trump is an idiot and a buffoon, not assisting him because they believe in him, but instead want to see the destruction that he can cause. I think they are the core of the alt-right and would put Milo and Bannon in their number.

The dumb ones truly believe everything Trump does is forgivable and a great man. They are so unself-aware that they are clueless as to how stupid their name-calling, plagiarism and general lack of substance makes them sound. You typical Facebook poster and Sean Hannity would probably fit in this category.

I'm not sure if there's anyway to battle them aside from finding an ignore button that can drop them into another universe.

Thanks for the welcome.

Right now their insecurities about the future- sharing any prosperity with brown people has them very concerned.
Their motivations are greed and xenophobia. When they see the economy really tank they'll turn around and beg for a better safety net. Seen it again and again.

7. What kills me is how little of those last two items were ever brought out

EVEN IF one believes there is a big conspiracy in our corporate press and they are all working in cahoots to never mention anything good Democrats have done......why haven't Democrats crowed loudly about these accomplishments every chance they had to the point where they were so annoying the corporate press HAD to report them.

The opposite extreme is the old Soviet Pravda where national accomplishments and worker productivity etc. were highlighted on every front cover, but jeez, I heard nothing about these accomplishments on the MSM or from Democratic guests. Now it is open to Trump and the GOP to once again take the credit instead, and they have no qualms doing so.

8. Of Course that What They Think

They're ignorant unemployed white trash that don't care about the stock market because they haven't owned a share in their lives. This just follows the trend before the election when staffers from shows like The Daily Show and The Young Turks interviewed Trump supporters who believed anything they heard from Alex Jones or saw on Facebook.

9. this is not an internet problem. that is still a democratic medium

there are different sources a click away

the problem for the last 30 years is talk radio, specifically the disastrous lack of recognition by the left/dems/liberals of the talk radio problem and lack of challenge to it.

the right created a monopoly propaganda operation and subsidize and protect it and liberals ignored it and still do

the alternate reality effects more than the hard core dittoheads because liberals don't talk back

competition and legislation won't work - it's mom and pop vs wall mart

liberals have to boycott all advertisers on all rw talk stations and protest the 88+ universities that rent their logos/brands to more than 257 of those stations

as many as 1/3 of the 1200 or so rw stations depend on publicly funded schools to attract advertising so they can sell the alternate reality in those communities, including global warming denial and defunding of public education (so tuition goes up!)

10. It's small AM radio stations, too

A lot of these small AM stations that have to power way down at sunset don't have enough local programming to fill their air time, so they buy the national shows from the talk radio syndicators that feature a plethora of rw yakkers. Don't discount the fact that the old Trump voters still listen to the local AM radio station for things like local high school sports or small college sports broadcasts and never bother to change the dial. On my local AM station, even though the program director is a liberal guy, you can hear Michael Medved, Larry Elder and Mike Gallagher 5 days a week starting at 3, unless they're pre-empted by local/college/pro sports.

14. several years back

the big station in Hartford was WTIC AM 1080. It is a 50,000 watt station. For over 50 years, they had a guy named Bob Steele in the mornings, but after he retired, he was replaced by a right winter named Ray Dunaway, who's been there for probably 20 years now. He wasn't a hardcore right winger, but he was big on climate change denial and against political correctness. For a long time, he was paired up with a former local TV personality named Diane Sawyer. It was like the radio version of Morning Joe - the outspoken male Republican and the quieter moderate Democrat. The morning show was frequently more about local events, local sports and weather, but Dunaway would always get some political comments on the air, though he was generally fair when a state Democratic politician came on for an appearance - no ambush type questions.

In the middle of the day, they had hard corer RWer Jim Vicevich, a local guy, and then Rush Limbaugh. But, after that, they had local liberal Hartford Courant columnist and funny guy Colin McEnroe from 3pm to 6pm each night, McEnroe was their highest rated show they had.

But, following the 2008 election, the station purged the two Democrats - Sawyer in the morning and McEnroe in the afternoon. Dunaway became a solo show and McEnroe was replaced by disgraced Republican John Rowland, the former governor who resigned in the face of impending impeachment. So, they axed their highest rated show and replaced him with a convict.

So, even when a liberal is successful, he gets stabbed in the back. I haven't listened to the station since.

the abq 50000 watt limbaugh station in nm had a guy named jim villanuchi who was rw ger with a sense of humor but started to go moderate on abortion and wouldn't vote for romney in 2012 - wanted gary johnson - they got rid of him. he was somewhat intelligent with a decent following but the guys replacing him are total jerks with no callers. but they have the lobos games so they'll survive.... until......

WTIC carries the Red Sox games here in Connecticut, so they have that in the Spring, Summer and early Fall, and in the winter and early Spring, they have UConn Huskies men's and women's college basketball. So, they're doing okay.

all seem to being going all news or all sports talk. KDKA used to have Chris Moore and Mike Romigh as its house liberals, but neither are with the station anymore. KDKA doesn't even carry sports programming now. I haven't listened to it in years.

40. This is what happens when people are so apathetic and uninformed they allow

things like the Fairness Doctrine to be killed by the likes of Reagan in 1984 (whoa! interesting date here...). Because this was part of a corporate plan to create a massive propaganda apparatus to challenge New Deal policies centered around the welfare of the people with an corporate capitalist generated set of ideas designed to manufacture consent around putting aside much of the public good in favor of raping the treasury and transferring tax monies from being used for public good (like roads, infrastructure, old age pensions, prisons, medical care and so on), and instead route the funds to corporate profits.

So, when I say that capitalism sucks, that's just what I mean. Capitalism that is unrestrained by a strong government with a strong sense of, and dedication to, the public good, does in fact suck. It sucks money that could be used to make our lives better away from us, instead to profit big pharma, the insurance industry, oil and gas, and the military industrial complex Ike warned us about.

Many believe that the assassination of JFK was a actually a coup-de-etat by the military industrial complex. Did you know?

Remember what Bobby said about John: "His mistake was that he actually believed he was president."

So we on the left sit here being appalled and basking in righteous anger over the fact the American public is so PROFOUNDLY ignorant. But that's useless, don't you think? Wouldn't it be better if a) we became more active and influential in local politics, and b) through that involvement recaptured the party 'machine,' c) thereby creating a power base at the local level that can propel New Deal socialist candidates in the Warren and Sanders mold into national office, and maybe more importantly d) taking control of school boards so that we can influence textbook choice and overturn the more sinister 'Hitler Youth' approach the right wing has taken to rewriting our children's textbooks. Instead of stupid stuff like young-earth creationism and more sinister stuff like emphasizing obedience rather than civil disobedience.

The other thing we must do is work diligently 24/7/365 to get OUR word out. How do we compete with the huge and pervasive corporate Fox 'news' - hate-talk radio propaganda organs? Just that way. By finding ways to get our word out. Our truth. The idea that we need to organize around human need rather than human greed. The idea that helping fellow human beings is NORMAL and not a radical political position, as has been posited by the right wing.

What do/should we want?
1. Massive public funding to revitalize and rebuild our infrastructure
2. Single payer healthcare
3. Strong Social Security disability and old age pension programs
4. Strong unions and a revision of laws governing corporate charters that will hold the rights and welfare of workers EQUAL to those of shareholders
5. Strong environmental policies and regulations that hold the welfare of the earth as SUPERIOR to the welfare of shareholders - we all have to live here, after all
6. Strong consumer protections around predatory capitalism in banking, insurance, investment, and general business practice so that the welfare of the consumer is held at least EQUAL to the welfare of shareholders AND workers

So...do you guys think we'll actually have the guts and willpower to make this happen? Doubtful. In fact, I doubt that most of you will even agree with what I've said here.

One last question: If our national debt is money we owe to ourselves as a people, then why are we paying back that money with interest to Citibank, JP Morgan Chase and other large banks that have an interest in the Fed? Do you think the Fed is really quasi governmental, as we're told it is, or do you think it is actually owned by, and representative of the interests of, banks over the people?

Just asking...
