It's kind of important.

Until I hear different I'll assume they're all for cutting federal funding.

In the '80s and '90s, I published scientific papers. Now I am "retired", but still have many years to go before Social Security can kick in.

care where anything is produced, intellectually or otherwise, so long as it's done where the cost is the least?

... it's in the countries with the least science going on?

Yahoo published a list of the ten most violent cities in the world last week, and every one of them was in the science-deficient countries on Tyson's map.

I think that both of those statistics are really a measure of "civilization", and by that measure, the U.S. is becoming less and less civilized.
