Everyone is trying to engage the Pope, talk with him, hold his hand, kiss him, at least catch his eye. Boner sat there and didn't even TALK to the Pope. It was so awkward. Anyone else notice?

Of course, things in Congress will get WORSE, not better, when he leaves. Not that we need to cower in fear--it's sucked sufficiently to this point, so it will be more of the same. We'll be hearing a lot more "culture war" shit as a consequence, though.

Bring on the gridlock, I guess. The sad thing is that appropriations begin in the house--that's where the money comes from, so it could get dicey in the next year or two.

51. this is what booze & cigarettes do to people

My boozy, chain-smoking stepdad, who actually had a wonderful heart (although he needed a quadruple bypass), used to cry all the time. He'd look at my mother and start to cry and then explain that he loved her. Same thing if he talked about his grown kids and grandkids. I used to think he was just emotional but now realize it was the booze/cigarettes.

47. Because, you see, with men, they are showing their "humanity," but one one-hundredth of the

waterworks coming outta a woman is "weakness."

Now, let me whip this out just in case someone driving by thinks I'm "lecturing" or "splaining" or some such construct.

It's like Ann Richards said, "After all, Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels."

There are lots of groups in America, still, who have to work twice as hard for half the credit. Women are one such group. You'd think we'd be doing a little better on that score; we're not as bad as some, but we are nowhere near "resting on our laurels" territory.

78. Republicans Are Going To Get Their Comeuppance From The Pope?

I've seen many similar comments on the web. Republicans are said to be "quaking in their boots!" because the Pope is going to put them in their place! Ha! Ha! We have the last laugh!

But that's naive. John Boehner invited the Pope to speak, and while the Pope said some things they can safely ignore, and which will soon be forgotten, he dignified and provided moral authority for their plans to defund Planned Parenthood and blessed their stance against gay marriage. That what they we're after, and that's what the Pope delivered for them.

80. The Pope finally made Speaker Boehner what a failure he was since 2010.

The House has been less effective since he has been speaker. The House has been in recess or on vacation during Boehner terms than anytime in the History of the House. Boehner, along with his radical conservatives, tried their best to bring down this government. Working to undermine the Constitution. Boehner finally realized, with the help of the Pope, he had failed. He is resigning his seat and will finally have a full time vacation on Marco Island. This is where he belongs.
If only the Republicans and the Conservatives would work for the people and the nation. What a difference it would make. Destroying gains nothing and Boehner finally realized that. The House of Representative lost many years of constructive work since Boehner took over in 2010.

It is anyone guess what happens next. Only the total defeat of the Republican party will bring this nation back to the top.
