Part of the Country Burns Down While Congress Plays The Fiddle

The corporate media has been almost completely silent about the fact that large parts of the country are burning to the ground. The government is having to spend obscene amounts of money to fight wildfires brought on by extreme drought from climate change, yet Republicans refuse to grant money to save the country, and they are still refusing to admit that climate change is a national threat.

Ring of Fire’s Mike Papantonio and Farron Cousins discuss this.

It's not clear the extreme drought in parts of the west is caused by climate change. We have a big El Nino right now, and that always screws up the weather patterns. Drought cycles are pretty normal for California since much of it is desert, after all. Large, catastrophic fires are part of the natural cycle for many ecosystems, but we forget that because we built houses and irrigated green lawns. Climate change may be a factor, but we live where it's not logical to live, grow crops that shouldn't grow in the desert, store and divert water, and mess with the natural order of things to a huge degree. Of course we will pay a price for that.

is more the problem with the fires. Global warming is real but not the cause of the fires.
