California is Dying of Thirst – Where’s The Media?

California is suffering a record-setting drought. It is forcing the state to take drastic measures to ensure water is conserved for priority uses. To help deal with the shortage some farmers are using wastewater from oil production to water their crops. But why isn’t the media talking about this?

Ring of Fire’s Mike Papantonio and Farron Cousins discuss this.

and lush gardens start getting fined for the amount of water they're using to keep those things pretty. Then you'll see this news hit the media. Right now, the eastern half of the country just yawns and moves on because their driest years would be extremely wet ones out west and they don't understand just how bad the drought out here is.

I'm speaking for the rest of the west at this point. Here in north central NM, we're having record rainfall from non monsoonal storms. The monsoon rains, themselves, will likely fail again as they have for so many years.

7. MSNBC Chris Hayes will report on this issue all next week "Water Wars" from California

Maybe a little late, but I'm sure it will be thorough and informative, because that's how Chris is.

Once again MSNBC will be dwelling on an issue of great importance. Their reporting on Food Waste was also very good. They are far from perfect -- if they want to run prison programs all weekend, how about exposing the money and commercialism of private prison contracts, and comparisons with other nations' policies, and analysis of how zero tolerance drug policies caused an explosion in prison populations, and the impact an arrest record has on the individual and on his or her children -- but I do really appreciate the quality from at least 5 or 6 of their anchors.

I don't watch TV, though, so maybe that's the difference?

I remember reading here on DU about a prison complex in central California that sits downhill from a land fill
The groundwater is btown. Its not safe to shower in let alone drink. The inmates must buy expensive water from the commissary or go without. Karma. The rest of the state can experience what the least of these amongst us must endure.

It doesnt serve them right exactly but maybe some corrupt official will get a clue and provide water to to California prisoners.
