Both videos are from a year ago, by the way -- but as long as the original is coming back round, the spoof might as well too.

You know, methane and fire.

This is that brown menace theme playing itself out.

I can just imagine what native americans thought when all those europeans landed.

Something like, 'Damn, there goes the neighborhood.'

I wonder who really paid for that ad...

I would never donate money to them even now
Sorta gall that they are for forcing natural pathways for animals across country lines but when indigenous people cross in to their area no way !

There’s also robust data showing that immigrants produce less carbon emissions than their native-born citizen counterparts.

Yeah come out of your energy sucking McMansion, get in your Hummer attend your treehugging Sierra meeting where you blame a dishwaher who lives with 4 other dishwashers in an apartment and rides a bike to work so you dont have to think about your own participation in global warming/pollution

Climate change caused by emissions caused by people is making this planet less hospitable to human habitation. We Americans are responsible for a disproportionate part of those emissions. Lots of us feel guilty about that. We are making efforts to improve, but we're being way too slow about it.

People who come here from countries where they use less and therefore emit less carbon will eventually start to live the way we do -- and emit as much carbon as we do. We could stop that from happening by curtailing immigration. People don't want to do that because they feel guilty. The vast majority of us descend from immigrants ourselves, and slamming the door on the next group of immigrants, keeping them from the wasteful lifestyle we have developed, just doesn't seem right.

And maybe it isn't right. But maybe the alternative is worse, because climate change is such an enormous threat that it's got to take some precedence. If you feel guilty, put that emotional energy into decreasing your own carbon footprint and using any political muscle you may have to get systems into place that will reduce our national footprint. Once the American carbon footprint is comparable of that of the countries from which people want to immigrate here, immigration will no longer be a problem.

The problem is American ways: driving, big house, overconsumption.

Immigration to the U.S. means more people living the American lifestyle, overconsuming.

about why he believes immigrants will have a much larger carbon footprint in the U.S. than they do in their native countries. I will post a link once I get it.

That said, I do not believe the premise is that "immigrants to the U.S. have a significant impact on global warming." To put it that way creates an issue over the word "significant." What any one person does is tiny on the global scale, yet it is the sum of those tiny actions that determines where we all go.

The premise, as I understand it, is that after people immigrate here from poor countries their carbon footprint quadruples (on a average).

Kinda makes sense to me. They drive. They consume. They stop growing their own food an instead rely on stuff raised by machine and trucked across the country. In short, they behave like other Americans, and the behavior that we Americans have gotten used to is the problem.

Sorry this took so long.

The paper on which the video is based: http://www.cis.org/GreenhouseGasEmissions

A video by one of the two authors of the paper explaining the main idea of the paper: http://www.cis.org/GreenhouseGasEmissionsVideo

Couple of quotes from the video:

"Since American emissions per capita are much higher than almost all of the immigrant-sending countries, immigration to the U.S. has clear implications for worldwide emissions."

"Overall our study found that immigration to the U.S. accounted for almost 5% of the increase in annual worldwide CO2 emissions since 1980."

its basically saying that the fewer Americans there are the better. The same argument could be made to argue for more abortions. I wonder who funded this shockingly anti-American ad.
