Thom Hartmann: Argentina is Nationalizing their Oil - We Should Too!

There's a bigger picture here that goes beyond how Wall Street is screwing with the prices of gasoline. It has to do with how we as a nation should handle our own natural resources...

My dad worked for Anaconda Copper in Chile for forty-four years while the Americans controlled it. The mine he worked in was nationalized shortly after he retired and is called Codelco today. It made a big improvement in the lives of the Chileans who work there. The profits go to the government and you have never heard of miners being stuck underground because of a collapse like in the privately owned mine in Copiapo because the government maintains high safety standards. The workers are unionized as well and the profits that were siphoned out of the country to Wall Street remain in the country going to the Treasury for the benefit of the Chilean people, not Wall Street billionaires.

Foreign investment is bleeding our money out of the country. Our resources belong to the people. I believe all extraction industries, mainly gas, oil, ores and lumber should be nationalized and the revenue put to work for the people of the United States of America.
